The hotel is situated in a newly developed residential area on the outskirts of Greenock. The Town Centre is roughly 15 minutes away on foot via a riverside walk. It is convenient for public transport being situated on the main bus routes, and is 10 minutes on foot from the nearest railway station.

Greenock
Built on the site of a former famous Clyde shipyard and Marine Engineering works, the hotel sits on the River Clyde at the entrance to James Watt Dock. In its heyday this dock was busy with ships discharging various cargoes, but it was mainly concerned with sugar and related products – the sugar warehouses nearby are listed buildings, being prime examples of the dockland architecture once prevalent throughout UK ports.

The dock remains active with vessels undergoing repair, and also provides berthage for the river tugs, and Fishery Protection vessels when they are in port. The hotel is a short distance from Greenock Ocean Terminal, which is regularly visited in the summer months by large cruise liners. As such the hotel provides an ideal place to stay for those interested in shipping.

With the demise of its shipbuilding and marine engineering past, Greenock has successfully diversified in more recent into lighter industries such as electronics. Historically a major trading port the town is rich in history and boasts some fine architecture, both in its public buildings and private residences. The Custom House is not only a fine edifice but also houses a museum of Customs and Excise in the UK.

For the more energetic the Waterfront Leisure Centre provides swimming, a water feature pool for the kids, and an ice rink. There are many other sports facilities one would expect in a town with a population of some 85,000. With the Firth of Clyde on its doorstep the town is also a good centre for sailing activities.

Greenock is ideally situated for those wishing to explore Central Scotland, with Glasgow 25 miles away, and Edinburgh is easily accessible as a day trip. Ferry ports are within easy reach, permitting trips to the more remote Argyllshire, and the Islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae.
