Activities at the Phakalane Hotel

Golf Course

An international standard 18-hole championship golf course designed by DDV Design Group – Douw van der Merwe.

The golf course was started in April 2000 and completed in June 2002. The course consists of 15 dams, 75 bunkers, and the average size of the greens is 700 m².

There are three permanent ablution facilities with refrigerated water, as well as a driving range.

The country club estate has the largest Pro Shop in Botswana. Club membership is offered to both residents and non-residents.

Bird Watching

Botswana is a particularly rewarding birding destination. Hotspots include the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park.

Over 450 bird species have been recorded in the area, and in the vicinity of the Chobe and Linyanti rivers, visitors can watch saddle-billed storks, long-toed plovers, pink-backed pelicans, African skimmers, Bradfield's hornbills, and the jewel-like carmine bee-eaters.

Heuglin's robin is a delight to hear in the early morning.

Game Viewing

It might seem like a bland statement to say that the number one experience in Botswana is game viewing, but that really is the case.

Unlike other countries where a good safari is often more of a combination of travel, landscape, people, and wildlife, here in Botswana the other three elements are virtually absent, and the focus is very much on the flora and fauna.

For people whose safari ambition is heavily focused on game viewing, Botswana has to be top of the list.

Boating, Canoeing, and Mokoro

In some areas, boating is one of the activities on offer. You can travel out into the surrounding areas by boat, looking for wild game, birds, and admiring the general scenery.

You can even fish in certain areas. In Botswana, you will have the opportunity to explore the Okavango Delta by mokoro (traditional dugout canoes).

There is no better way to relax in the wilderness than on a mokoro trip through the Okavango Delta.

About Botswana

Easily accessible from Johannesburg, Windhoek, and Victoria Falls, Botswana is a magnificent country with many wonderful highlights for the intrepid traveller.

Botswana is a land of staggering beauty with a small population and is ideally located in the heart of Southern Africa.

It is bordered to the north and west by Namibia, to the east by Zimbabwe, and South Africa is its southern neighbour.

Its beauty lies in its wilderness, wildlife, and cultural diversity.

From the crystal-clear waters of the Okavango Delta, also known as the 'jewel of the Kalahari', with its variety of wildlife and aquatic birds, to the large herds of elephant and buffalo in the Chobe National Park, to the dry savannah of the Savuti Channel with its ever-present predators and migrating zebra.

Its topography consists almost entirely of the Kalahari Basin, although there are some granite intrusions in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
