Shakawe Botswana
Shakawe is a village located in the northwest corner of Botswana.
It is located at the beginning of the Okavango Delta, close to Namibia
and Angola. It also provides access to the Caprivi Strip. The village
is served by Shakawe Airport.
Most visitors here come to fish, though bird watching – through
the riverside forest or from boats – is also popular. When
Namibia's Caprivi is safe, the Mahango Game Reserve is within reach
of a day-trip, though most visitors would opt to stay there as a
separate destination.

Beside the river bank , look for the Okavango's only armoured boat.
This is a relic of the Angolan war from the late 1970s. Apparently
it was used by 32 Battalion of the South African forces, who were
stationed in the Caprivi Strip, near the site where Ngepi Campsite
is now. However, it broke loose and drifted south, and has been
gentle rusting in Botswana ever since!
