About Vumbura Plains Camp
Vumbura Plains Camp is a luxury camp situated in a private concession in the extreme north of the Okavango Delta.
The concession, leased from the neighbouring community, includes a wide variety of habitats, diverse wildlife, and an enormous traversing area of 60,000 hectares.
Accommodation
Vumbura Plains Camp comprises two separate seven-roomed satellite camps, each with its own raised dining, lounge, and bar area tucked beneath a canopy of cool, shady, indigenous trees. Magnificent vistas across the Okavango Delta floodplains are a feature.
The camp also boasts a star-gazing deck with comfortable cushions that protrudes into the floodplain, providing a perfect place to gaze upwards or enjoy a convivial campfire setting.
The camp is unlike any safari camp you may have seen before. Each large, luxurious room is raised off the ground on wooden decks and consists of a bedroom, lounge, shower, and full en-suite bathroom. Outdoor showers are standard.
The rooms are open on three sides, with billowing curtains between the various areas, creating the feeling of a yacht floating through the floodplains.
Each room also features a plunge pool and a 'sala' – a comfortable area to lie and relax, watching the waving grasses of the floodplain.
Unique Features of Vumbura Plains Camp
- Both land and water activities are available, primarily nature viewing in varied habitats via open 4x4 vehicles, nature walks, mokoro trips, and boat excursions.
- Enjoy close-up sightings of lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, and a variety of plains game while exploring the area’s spectacular ecology.
- Birdwatching is remarkable, with a wide variety and abundance of bird species.
- The Vumbura concession is possibly the only area in the Okavango Delta where one can see both red lechwe (which inhabit the fringes of the waterways) and sable antelope (which prefer dry countryside) on the same game drive.
