Combining the purity of line and curve by M. Mondet, the feted French architect and King Norodom Sihanouk’s subtle interior design touches, The Independence Hotel is an elegant landmark on Cambodia’s south coast.

Since its origins, it has been a four-star beacon of comfort, luxury and style that matched and attracted visiting dignitaries such as Jacqueline Kennedy and America’s first lady.

Accommodation at The Independence Hotel

As the building was designed to be air-conditioned, there are considerable areas of aluminium-framed glazed windows. The Independence Hotel had 32 air-conditioned and 13 tourist class rooms.

At the time of inauguration, however, Norodom Sihanouk felt the need to consider the addition of another 50 tourist-class rooms in the form of bungalows.

Norodom Sihanouk's interior design include the use of wall-to-wall carpeting decorative metalwork screens, fabric-covered wooden lounges, chairs and imported bohemian crystal chandeliers.

The lounge and the dining room were furnished Directoire style. The royal suite had three lounges, two dining rooms, two bedrooms and bathrooms.

The fresh harvest from the sea is an enticing centre piece on the Sunset Terrace and Bar overlooking the ocean, where cooling, ozone-fresh breezes create a romantic ambience.
