Places to stay in Broughton in FurnessBroughton in Furness is a small town on the southern boundary of England's Lake District National Park. It is located in the Furness region of Cumbria, which was part of Lancashire before 1974. Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway is one of the oldest, longest narrow gauge railways in the world. These narrow gauge steam engines take you to the hills with a 1 in 55 gradient at points from the only coastal village in the National Park, Ravenglass, once a bustling port and of great significance in Roman times. Magnificently situated only a short distance from Grange-over-Sands and the expanse of Morecambe Bay, Holker Hall is set in exceptionally beautiful countryside with gardens that merge into Parkland framed by the Lakeland Hills. The immaculately kept gardens (25 acres in all) are part woodland and part formal garden. These are complimented by the 200-acre 'natural' parkland, which is the result of late 18th century planting by Lord George Cavendish. |
