Places to stay in CaldecottCaldecott is a village in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. It is located about four miles (6.4 km) south of Uppingham and about 2 miles north of Corby, Northamptonshire. The A6003 runs through the village. Caldecott is the most southerly village in Rutland. There is one public house - The Plough Inn - by The Green on Main Street, and an Italian restaurant - Castle Italia - on the A6003 Rockingham Road to the south of the village. Caldecott is a pleasant village to the south-west extremity of the county of Rutland and forming the boundary of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. The older houses are particularly interesting, being made of warm Welland sandstone or ironstone, some with limestone banding. The church has undergone loving restoration in recent years due to a bequest and is now of a very attractive appearance and in fine condition. There is a small Norman window reset in the chancel wall. 13th Century chancel southwest window (a reset lancet with transom), the south aisle with two windows with bar tracery (quatrefoil circles), the uncusped intersected tracery in the chancel, and the double sedilia under single–chamfered arches. |
