Places to stay in CalverCalver is a small village situated in the Derwent Valley, Derbyshire. The village is bordered by the River Derwent and intersected by the A623 trunk road, responsible for carrying traffic between Manchester to the west, Sheffield to the north & Chesterfield to the east. Today, the village's buildings are predominantly residential, but some local enterprises, including a craft centre, garden centre, post office, petrol station and shop, garage, shoe shop, outdoor pursuits shop and two pubs remain. There are two camp sites in Calver and many walkers visit the area. Calver is a pleasant , small, stone built village, situated in the Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park, 5 miles north of Bakewell. The River Derwent flows through the village, and is crossed by a fine 18th century bridge. In the centre of the village is an old cross, and there are several pubs, including the Eyre Arms, the Derwentwater Arms and the nearby Bridge Inn which is technically is in Curbar. Nearby at Calver bridge is the Derbyshire Craft Centre, which boasts the largest selection of Pottery and crafts in the country. |
