Places to stay in DawlishDawlish is an attractive holiday resort on the Devon Coast, it lies between the picturesque estuaries of both the River Exe and the River Teign. One of the most pleasant aspects of Dawlish is the wealth of wild birds flourishing around Dawlish Water which flows seaward over a series of small weirs through the local park known as The Lawn. This is particularly attractive when illuminated against the night time sky and the birds include, Black swans, East Indian game ducks, Chinese swan geese and numerous other seabirds. The beach here is mainly sand and shingle, it is backed by a low sea wall above which is a pleasing promenade filled with flowers and tropical plants. At the southern end of the beach the scenery changes, high cliffs shelter a cove where boats are hauled up on to the beach. Seen from above, the scattered rocks off shore present an eye catching seascape especially when stormy weather un-leashes the might of the sea against the cliffs. The town is quite charming, it has lovely public gardens, colourful alleyways with brightly painted bubs and pretty Bed and Breakfast establishments. A host of attractive shops will tempt you with a rich array of souvenirs, and cafe's entice with the aroma of fresh coffee and a menu featuring locally caught fish and seafood dishes. Apart from trips out to sea, Dawlish offers mini golf, bowling and amusement arcades. Away from the coast there is a hinterland of pretty Devon villages and attractive nautical towns to explore, such as Topsham which lies at the head of the Exe estuary and still maintains strong seafaring traditions. At the tip of the estuary lies Dawlish Warren, a lively place during the holiday season, with a nature reserve, and grassy sand dunes. |
