Susie and John Floud offer a friendly and relaxed Bed & Breakfast
service in an attractively furnished separate wing.
The accommodation, which is no-smoking, has its own entrance next
to the main house (see photo). Steep stairs lead from a large comfortably
furnished sitting room to a double/twin bedroom with en-suite shower
room.
Walliswood is an attractive hamlet in the leafiest and remotest
part of Surrey. It is situated in the centre of the Guildford/Dorking/Horsham
triangle and is within easy reach of various National Trust properties
and other places of interest. Many excellent local pubs offer varied
locally-sourced food.
The highly regarded Scarlett Arms is only ½ a mile away,
or 10 minus walk. London is accessible by train and the south coast
is about 25 miles away. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are within
easy reach. The whole plot is 2½ acres. Mature trees guard
the garden and by the side of the house is a wildflower meadow,
full of rare orchids in spring.
Tumbling from arches, low walls, pergolas and trees are about 100
varieties of old roses, not a hybrid tea in sight. There is a hot
border, white border, herbaceous border and rhododendron lawn which
occupies a large space up one side of the drive.
Thousands of bulbs bedazzle in spring. All are connected by original
patterned paths of brick. Maple seedlings and also cuttings of roses
have been brought back from Susie’s native Australia, so that
there is an array of beautiful trees which change colour from yellow
through to a deep red in autumn.
There is also a collection of about 40 to 50 clematis. Apart from
several mature oaks, there are also gum trees, a tulip tree, a handkerchief
tree and many other unusual specimens to add to the interest.
The garden is open once a year to local charities.
