Places to stay in DunsterDunster is situated in the sweeping hills of the Exmoor National Park and provides the ideal base for your holiday. Dunster has a good selection of restaurants, pubs and tearooms offering a wide range of culinary delights with local Exmoor produce. With over 200 listed buildings Dunster is preserved so that generations to come can enjoy the historic qualities of this unique village. Dunster has a wealth of historic buildings, from the National Trust’s 11th century Dunster Castle to the Old Yarn Market in the middle of the High Street, which was a focal point for the old Exmoor wool and cloth trade. Of course if it is quality shopping you are looking for then you will be spoilt for choice with an abundance of exclusive galleries, shops selling gifts, toys, hand-made confectionery, clothing, designer jewellery, antiques, second hand and new books, local arts and crafts, and much, much more. Dunster shops strive to achieve quality, offer the unusual and provide a truly unique shopping experience. The attractive village of Dunster is overlooked by the imposing Dunster Castle. The Yarn Market is a clue as to the village's former function, but the harbour at the nearby beach, from which wool was exported, has long since disappeared. The sand and shingle shore here is overlooked by Conygar Hill, a densely wooded area that is rich in wildlife, it is a peaceful place and the silence is disturbed only by the shrill shriek of gulls as they circle the air above. Dunster is pleasantly situated between the resorts of Watchet and Minehead. Local attractions include, Cleeve Abbey, Combe Sydenham Hall and Tarr Steps. |
