Launceston, pop 7000, is the ancient Capital of Cornwall and holder of several Royal Charters. It lies on the Cornwall Devon border, in the far south west of England. To the west lies Bodmin Moor, to the north the rugged Atlantic Coast, with its great beaches. To the East Dartmoor, and the tranquil River Tamar, which runs all the way to the English Channel on the South Coast. On the Devon and Cornwall border and between two Moors - Bodmin and Dartmoor, the town allows easy access to West Devon, the Tamar Valley and North and South Cornwall. Launceston is a traditional market town. It is quintessentially Cornish, with its Georgian houses, intricately carved church, narrow streets and market square.Today it's a shoppers delight, with a range of shops and services equal to many bigger towns - yet Launceston still retains a traditional atmosphere.
