Moreton in Marsh is one of the principal market towns in the northern Cotswolds situated on the Fosse Way and now served by the main line railway from London Paddington. It is a pretty town of the honey coloured stone quarried from the local area. The broad High Street has the Fosse Way, a major Roman road from the south coast to Lincoln lying beneath the modern surface. It grew in the thirteenth century as a market town with a wide main street, narrow burgage plots and back lanes. There still is a busy Tuesday market with about 200 stalls attracting many visitors. The high street has many elegant eighteenth century inns and houses including the Redesdale Market Hall, is at the centre of the town. The Wellington Aviation and Art Museum is a haven for enthusiasts of World War II memorabilia including paintings, prints, models and aircraft history, with the proceeds going to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
