Places to stay in PorthcurnoPorthcurno is a small village in the parish of St. Levan located in a valley on the south coast of the county of Cornwall, England in the United Kingdom. It is approximately 9 miles to the west of the market town of Penzance and about 3 miles from Land's End, the most westerly point of the English mainland. Popular family beach with lots of soft sand. Steeply shelving beach attracts more experienced swimmers. The stream at the top of the beach is ideal for children paddling. All facilities available. Close to Minack Theatre and Telegraphy Museum. Porthcurno valley, in the far west of Cornwall, was the hub of international cable communications from 1870-1970 and a training college for the communications industry until 1993. In WWII secret tunnels were dug by Cornish miners to house an underground building and the entire telegraph operations. These bomb proof/gas proof tunnels provided 14 secure cables out of the UK to its allies. |
