Places to stay in Stanton St John

A flourishing village with a nursey school and playgroup, village shop, 2 pubs, well-tilled allotments and splendid church. It is the birthplace on 25 December 1575 of John White the son of a local tenant farmer, who as Rector of Holy Trinity in Dorchester (Dorset) helped form the Massachusetts Company to support English settlers. In 1628/9 a colony was founded at Sale; the first church built there was called 'Daughter of John White, as it is known to this day.
The village has a delightful children's play area behind the village hall. Nearby Rectory Farm, open in summer, offers PYO fruit and veg, specialising in strawberries and asparagus.
