The Coachouse was originally built in 1857 as a carriage house
as part of the adjoining Ottery Farm now renamed Ottery House.
It was designed by the Duke of Bedford, who owned extensive estates
in the area, to form part of a 'model farm'. In 1988 the building
was sold and the present owners, Ed and Merl Stevens renovated it
and turned it into a family home and later converted it to a small
hotel.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi available in the main building. There
is a well-stocked bar, lounge and restaurant which is south facing
and overlooks a sunken walled garden created by Ed and Merl from
a dilapidated barn.
The Coachouse has rooms with single, twin, double and queen size
beds available, prices and availability can be found by using the
calendar on the booking page. All bedrooms have en suite shower
rooms, central heating, flat screen digital TV, direct dial telephones,
radios and hospitality trays. There are two free car parks one behind
the other with spaces for at least twenty cars.

Directions to The Coachhouse Hotel
There are two main ways to find the Coachouse from Tavistock. The
shortest route is to follow the signs to Tavistock Hospital on the
road heading north out of Tavistock going towards Launceston. About
half a mile passed the hospital you will see a small lane on your
left and two brown tourist signs indicating the way to Milemead
Fisheries and The Coachouse Hotel.
Take this lane and stay on it for two miles where you will come
to the village sign for Ottery, carry on until you are almost out
of the other end of the village and you will see the Coachouse on
your left and the carpark on your right.
The second route is to take the A390 headed west towards Gunnislake
in Cornwall, around 2.5 miles on this road you will come to a roundabout,
the third exit is signposted to 'the village of 'Chipshop' . Carry
on this road for just over a mile and you will see the Copper Penny
Inn on your left, turn right immediately opposite the Inn and carry
on down the hill for three or four hundred yards where you find
the village sign for Ottery.
As soon as you pass the village sign the hotel is on your right
and the car park on your left.
