Places to stay in WythamWytham, a small but thriving village, lies 4 miles north west of Oxford City Centre. Formerly owned by the Earls of Abingdon, for several hundred years, Wytham is now owned by Oxford University. Despite having a population of only about 120, Wytham village attracts many visitors who come to see this special, un-touched place. They comment on the tranquility of the village and its rural setting despite its proximity to Oxford and to main road communications (A34 and M40). The village boasts a village shop, All Saints Church, the White Hart pub/restaurant and the world-famous Wytham Woods. Perhaps the most intensively studied natural area on Earth, Wytham Woods is situated in the heart of the Upper Thames Basin in Oxfordshire, England. Wytham Woods, also known as the Woods of Hazel, is a beautiful patchwork of deciduous woodland and grassland. The woods have been owned by the world-renowned University of Oxford since 1943 and thus its diverse flora and fauna have been the subject of numerous studies. The woods and grassland of Wytham cover two hills and range from altitudes of 60 to 164 metres. The average monthly temperature at Wytham Woods is between 4 and 17 degrees Celsius, and 31 to 77 millimetres of rain falls each month. |
