The Dragonfly Ranch is in a beautiful location on the Big Island's Kona Coast, known as "The Playground of the Royalty". Forty minutes (26 miles) south of Keahole-Kona Airport, this soulful retreat centre is a half hour drive (19 miles) from the town of Kailua-Kona. The Dragonfly Ranch is a modern day sanctuary, blessed to be in the middle of the "Sacred Healing Triangle" where Samoans and Tahitians of ancient times sailed for healing purposes. |
The Dragonfly Room The Dragonfly Room is part of the main house, which is shaded by the canopy of a giant monkey pod tree. The bedroom is located up 3 stairs to the right of the kitchen. It has a queen-sized bed and a full bath with tub inside as well as a beautiful private outdoor shower. There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas for sharing food and fun with other delightful guests. |
|
The Dolphin Room On the same level as the Dragonfly Room, separated by a bathroom, the Dolphin Room is contiguous to the living room with a sound proofed wall and king sized bed. Sounds from the road, which has very few cars at night, is less in this room than any other space. The dolphin decor is charming and many people like the private entrance and ‘outdoor’ toilet, sink and shower area, which is screened in with bamboo for privacy. |
The Honeymoon Suite (aka Royally Sweet Suite) Our most luxurious suite has inspired extraordinary romantic, dream like experiences. Nestled in a lush jungle setting with ocean views, this suite features a king-size outdoor bed with memory foam and 1200 thread count sheets, goose down pillows and comforter of course with a mirrored canopy. The bed and food preparation areas are screened in under a pavilion roof like a bird cage for people. The other half of the suite is an adjoining indoor redwood room with a queen-size futon, two-way access bathroom, dressers and entertainment centre. |
Lomilomi Suite Above the Writer's Studio and below the roof deck, this 20' x 22' room has a spacious, open feeling with a high ceiling, two walls of screen and one wall of mirrors reflecting the unobstructed view of Kealakekua Bay. Opposite the mirrored wall is a wall of screen that can be closed with sliding mirrored doors. This airy room has a private toilet, sink and a deep 2-person tub. |
The Writer's Studio This is a "homey" place to stay - a cozy, studio-like space, below the main house on the bottom level with a private entrance, bathroom and outdoor shower. One wall is screened, with curtains for privacy. |
Activities Snorkelling One of the best snorkelling spots on the entire island is just a few minutes from the Dragonfly Ranch. Called "two step" by the locals and right beside the famous Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, this is a must see under water wonderland. Dolphins, sea turtles and myriad colourful fish can be seen here as well as the most incredible crystal clear blue water. The Dragonfly Ranch has a full supply of snorkle gear and its use is included in your stay. Kayaking Also just 10 minutes from the Dragonfly Ranch is the legendary Kealakekua Bay. Kealakekua means "pathway of the gods" in Hawaiian. It is also the first landing spot of explorer Captain James Cook, who brought the Hawaiian Islands to the attention of western civilization. Commune with wild dolphins The bay at Pu'uhonua O Honaunau and Kealakekua Bay as well as Ho'okena Beach is known for wild dolphins. It is forbidden to chase or otherwise try and swim with dolphins however they are quite curious and quite often will approach snorklers. It’s important not to try and touch dolphins. The bays are their resting places and its advisable to go early, 7:00 am and no later than 10:00 am when the dolphins are more active. After 10:00 am they become more restful and we leave the area so they can rest. Diving Misha Sperker of Old Hawaiian Coffee is our good friend and local dive master. You will not find a more knowledgeable and friendly dive experience than Misha. Misha is an explorer, farmer, Hawaiian antique art dealer, aguanaut and extremely interesting person. Just to hang out with him for a few hours is priceless. Whale Watching Winter is whale watch season in Hawaii when the majestic humpback whales make their 2000+ mile journey from Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii to birth their calfs and mate. |
