Reviews of Mahalene Lodge in Bilene Mozambique

We are from Moz but just wanted a weekend away, and thought of Mahalene, what a mistake.... The staff was very hard working, but the management was very poor. The restaurant was useless, they hardly had any ingredients. There was only like 3 sitting chairs, and was only space for one family. This place really needed more furniture. We did not get service by the pool, and when you've reached the top of the stairs to go and relax, there was only chairs and no tables... what's up with that ???

Don't even think about room service, or anybody cleaning your room in the morning. The price for the food and drinks were ridiculous for the standard. There was a lot of things wrong and rusty in this place, and the owner just didn't care about anything.... I mean a board with nails in it was lying on the veranda, what if some one had stepped in those dirty nails barefooted... Maybe this place would be a nice holiday stay if only there was some one who cared and maintained the place. Urgently needs new management...

The website looked great, and being here before a few years ago encouraged us to come again. BIG MISTAKE.... My daughter & grandchild with myself had booked 2 separate units. They said that we could upgrade if we wanted because it was very quiet. I'm not sure if we really did upgrade...

There was a lack in a lot of things ALL places usually have, they said we would have a fridge... no fridge, a kettle but no cups , no toiletries like toilet paper and soap, not even hot water... It needed attention really quick !! windows didn't want to close mosquito nets were thorn, so was the shower curtain...and the safe was out of order...

There was no use for the mosquito nets on the beds, they were to small and had more wholes in them then actually being a NET.... The unit was so dirty, there was some or other kind of droppings on the windowsill and dirt was shoved under the bed...

We had to use the broken air con to keep away the mosquitoes, well at least we had a choice, freeze to death or get eaten alive by mosquitoes, we chose to freeze...

My daughter also had no luck with the mosquitoes, they were sommer inside her net and her child was covered with bites that morning even though she was bathed in mosquito repellent. Being in Mozambique and having an infant with us we could not stay here with all the mosquitoes, it was to big of a risk, so after breakfast we left with out refund. Hopefully there was no malaria involved...
