The Massingir Dam, with a 5km wide wall, stretches 20kms into the Elefantes Gorge, and can be explored by boat all the way up to the South African border with the Kruger National Park.

Accommodation at Covane Community Lodge


Covane Community Lodge offers an array of accommodation options, overlooking the Massingir Dam in Moçambique. Our spaciously appointed chalets offer endless views and en-suite luxury, while our six en-suite traditional Shangaan hut units offer rustic comforts – all supplied with linens, towelling and mosquito nets. Bed and breakfast rates apply as our units are not self catering.

Boat-based game & bird viewing or a sunset cruise on the dam is a must for nature lovers and ends any day perfectly before disembarking for dinner at our restaurant. For those who prefer self catering camping, our campsites with ablution facilities are surrounded by lush mopani trees.

The self-catering houseboat sleeps 4 people, and is accompanied by a skipper for the period during which the vessel is chartered. It is ideal for those who would require water-based accommodation while on a fishing trip.


Covane Community Lodge is owned by the local Canhane community, and proceeds from your reservation benefits the community directly.

Guest have to make use of our restaurant and bar. We offer breakfast (included for Lake view & Bush huts guests) as well as lunch and dinner on a set menu.

There is local mobile coverage.

Power: Power supplied by a 220V generator, which operates from18h00 to 22h00 daily.
