10 Sleeper Chalets:
These units are perfect for large groups and family get-togethers
Double storey with two rooms on the ground floor and another three on
the first floor comfortably accommodates all guests.
Open plan kitchen (fully equipped) and living area on the top floor opening
onto a spacious balcony for some breathtaking views.
One and a half bathrooms on both floors (separate shower and toilet).
Beds and sleeping arrangements can be assembled to best suit group requirements.
6 Sleeper Chalets:
These units are perfect for a family vacation
Single storey with three bedrooms.
Open plan kitchen (fully equipped) and living area on the top floor opening
onto a spacious balcony for some breathtaking views.
One and a half bathrooms (separate shower and toilet).
Beds and sleeping arrangements can be assembled to best suit group requirements.
2 - 4 Sleeper Chalets:
These units are perfect for a small family (only children 12 years and
younger) or couple
A large single bedroom with a double bed and two twin beds
Kitchenette equipped with basic utensils (please see the unit content
page for more info).
One bathroom (shower).
Beds and sleeping arrangements can be assembled to best suit group requirements.
Camping:
Camping facilities at Faraway have recently enjoyed an upgrade and we
boast some of the best camping spots in the area, so pack the tents and
come along to Faraway!
Our campsite is scattered with palm trees and established shade trees,
we have 14 spacious stands with power that allows for 6 guests and offer
thatch roofed covers.
These covers/barracas have solid, concrete floors to create a shaded living
space for the group to relax or visit under keeping out the sun and rain.
The barracas can be rented at an additional charge, but during low season
they can be used free of charge.
Be sure to specify if you want to add this option to make your camping
effortless.Our ablutions are neat and clean and have enjoyed a recent
expansion and upgrade.
The bathrooms are supplied with hot water so you can
enjoy your shower as hot or cold as you like. No open fires are allowed
in any of the campsites, but braais are built in an area designated around
the swimming pool for use by the lodge guests at any time.The electricity
supply can accommodate one fridge/freezer – please make sure you
include a gas stove and stove top kettle in your packing; no electric
kettles and stoves are allowed.
No pets are allowed.
Faraway Lodge is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles – please arrange
with our office for transfers.

It can be quite daunting to travel around an unknown country for the first
time and Mozambique has received some bad reviews in the past, making
travelers weary.
Faraway Lodge Activities
Things to do:
- Barra and the surrounding area has so many activities for the entire
family to enjoy; it really is the best place to spend your time relaxing
under the sun!
- Whale watching
June until December is whale season at Barra with pods of up to thirty
whales being spotted sailing and breaching off the beach. Whale sharks
also frequent the calm waters of the Inhambane area with regular sightings
of this sought after swimming companion.
- Dolphin Watching
Dolphins are often encountered in the bay between Inhambane and Maxixe
as well as offshore the beach.
- Horse riding, quad trips and coastal flights can also be arranged, subject
to availability and season.
ACTION PACKED:
- Fishing
Barra and the surrounding seas have a great many options when it comes
to getting the lines wet; deep sea, bill, game, fly fishing or rock and
surf – something for everyone!
Fishing charters can be arranged around Barra and Tofu .Remember to pack
your tackle!
- Spear Fishing
For those who like their hunting done up close and personal, we have great
hotspots with safe entrance and exit points where the visibility is good
and the prey abound! You will be hunting for hours!
- Dhow Trips
These trips can add to your Mozambique experience; travel to Pansy Island
and Maxixe and with a good chance of spotting dolphins en-route it is
a trip well worth taking.
- Diving
The Barra area is noted for the whale sharks and manta ray species that
can be found in its ocean twelve months of the year and beside these magnificent
creatures the waters teem with life. Apart from diving for the pleasure
and sport Tofu has a research centre, where research is aimed at studying
specifically the whale sharks and manta rays that are found in these waters.
- Snorkeling
Snorkeling among the reefs close to the beach is a blast; Barra beach
holds a lot of excitement beneath the surf for the snorkeling enthusiast!
Some ideas of what to do at Faraway Lodge
Faraway have something to offer everybody. It is very safe for kids and
activities include:-
- World class diving – who has not heard of the mantas and whalesharks?
- Excellent snorkeling around shipwrecks, reefs or in the lagoon.
- Great fishing, deep sea, bill, game , fly fishing or rock and surf.
- Spearfishing. Safe entry and exit points for spearos who will enjoy
the good viz, warm water and plenty of game fish behind the reef.
- Dhow trips to pansy island or across the bay to Maxixe for a traditional
Portuguese lunch with a good chance of seeing dolphins en-route.
- Just enjoying the beach and the warm safe waters.
- Horse riding, quad trips and coastal flights are also available in season.
- Whale watching with pods residing for 4 to 6 months a year.
