Situated 487km north of Maputo, access by road is on a tarred
road which is suitable for normal vehicles. The road from Maputo
to Inhambane has been upgraded and resurfaced.

Ocean View Self Catering Accommodation
The Chalets are fully equipped for Self catering:
- 8 sleeper - 3 bedrooms with two single beds in the lounge
- 4 sleeper - 1 bedroom with two single beds in the lounge
Each one has its own open plan lounge/kitchen/dining room, and a patio.
All the basic amenities are supplied including a fridge, 3-plate gas stove,
cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, utensils, linen and mosquito netting.
Clients must take own TOWELS AND BEACH TOWELS.
Electricity is provided 24 hour.
8 Sleeper Units:
Comfortable self-catering chalets, build in the local style, are on the
beach (about 50m walking distance to the water) with stunning views over
the Indian ocean. Fully equipped 8 sleeper chalets. All the units has
a large sea-facing veranda and all bedrooms have an unblemished sea view.
Units have a dining area, fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, shower with
hot and cold water, 2 separate toilets, bed linen, mosquito nets, freezer,
fridge and electricity.
4 Sleeper Units:
Comfortable self-catering casitas, also build in the local style, are
on the beach with stunning views over the Indian ocean.
All the basic amenities are supplied including a fridge, 3-plate gas stove,
cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, utensils,
linen and mosquito netting.
Units have 1 bedroom, 2 beds in dining area, fully equipped kitchen, bed
linen, mosquito nets, freezer, fridge
and electricity.
Please note that we don't supply:-bath and swimming towels
The units is serviced daily.
The road from Maputo to Inhambane has been upgraded and resurfaced.
At the turn-off to Inhambane is an old section of road, approx. 30km,
which is potholed. This section is being patched and will be completed
in due course. Please note that there are numerous towns and villages
en-route and the main road often passes directly through these villages.
Speed limits are enforced in these places and it is advised to drive with
caution. Do not drive at night.
The drive from Maputo to Inhambane can take anything between 6 –
8 hours and sufficient time needs to be allowed to avoid night driving.
One may also fly to Inhambane. Direct flights from O.R.Tambo Airport in
Johannesburg operate throughout the week.
From the historical city of Inhambane it is only a 30 minute drive to
Makolo Bay.
Makolo Bay has secluded, unspoilt beaches, and is bordered by the Inhambane
estuary on one side and the sea on the other. The warm Indian Ocean offers
safe bathing all year round. Wide open, sun-drenched beaches offer endless
hours of strolling pleasure. Makolobay has pristine, secluded beaches
and is almost entirely surrounded by water, the Inhambane Estuary being
on the one side and the clear waters of the Indian Ocean on the other.
The beach here is long and wide and the warm waters safe to swim in.
Out to sea the nearby reef is home to hundreds of fish species including
the manta ray and the whale shark. At Makolo Bay you will experience Mozambique
at its best as you laze away the hours under the gently swaying coconut
palms and casuarinas.
Fishing and diving enthusiasts may hire boats from the nearby Tofo village
while surfers share the surf with bottle nosed dolphins.For shopping you
can visit the nearby town of Inhambane, where there are some excellent
but fairly basic shops as well as a good number of cafes and restaurants.
This is a truly excellent destination in which to relax and get away from
the bustle of city life.
Ocean View Self Catering Facilities and Activities
Deep sea Fishing:
The different reefs in the Bay of Barra and the warm waters of Mozambique
provide some of the best game fishing in the world. It is easy to launch
your ski-boat from the beach.
Some of the Game species in these waters are:
Marlin, Silfish, Barracouta, Wahoo, Dorado, Yellowfin tuna, Kingfish,
Prodical Sun, Rainbow Runner and many more.
They support Tag & Release but you are welcome to take your catch
home.
Other Activities:
Various well-equipped diving charters with experienced diving instructors
are available in the area, enabling you to enjoy some of the world's best
scuba waters.
Snorkeling in the beautiful tidal pools the sea or in the lagoon is an
unforgettable experience.
The calm waters of the bay provide excellent fly-fishing or you can venture
into the huge lagoon by boat or fly-fish from its side. The accessible
beaches offer endless opportunity for tock and surf fishing.
Sailing and Yachting Trips, Canoeing and Horse riding can
be arranged at nearby venues. Tours of the surrounding areas, restaurants,
pub crawling, curio shop and swimming pool nearby. In the city of Inhambane
you will find the local market. From Inhambane you can take a trip on
a ancient Dhow to Maxixe and have lunch at the Restaurant.
Where is Ocean View Self Catering?
Mokolo Bay is 485kms north of Maputo, access is on tarred roads
until the last 7kms leading to the lodge which are gravel.
A 4x4 is only needed to park next to to the chalets 2x4 park in the car
park and a short walk takes you to your chalet.

Directions to Makolo Bay from Johannesburg:
• Take the N4 - past Witbank, Mbombela(Nelspruit) and all the way
to the Komatipoort border.
• Once through the Ressano Garcia border post, follow the main toll
road to Maputo
• As you enter Maputo proceed through the toll gate and shortly
after take a left turn onto EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road
north.
• Pass Villages of Maracuene (28km), Manhica (75km), Macia (143km)
and Chissano to the town of Xai-Xai 204km North of Maputo, this is a good
place to re-fuel.
• Continue on the North Coastal Road passing smaller villages and
towns,including Chidenguele (262km), Quissico (392km) and Inharrime (372km).
• From Inharrime continue for approximately 45km passing Cumbano
which has a large radio mast on the left side of the road to LINDELA
• Keep a look out for a sign board on your left saying LINDELA.
• Immediately after this sign the tar road forks, turn right.
• Inhambane is approximately 33km from this turn.
• Once in Inhambane drive to where you see the harbour quay on your
left.
• Turn right at Broad Road Ave. DA Independecia (it is possible
that there will be no road names up).
• Continue to the large semi-circle, turn right onto the road running
at the back of the circle.
• Continue with this road - it bears left as you leave the town.
• Keep on this road, passing the airport turn-off on your left.
Continue with this road for 18km.
• As you come over a rise you will find Babalaza Restaurant on your
right.
• The tar road bears right and a sand road continues straight. (9kms
of sand)
• Keep straight on the sand road and follow signs to Makolo Bay
