Pomene Bay Lodge is situated in one of the most picturesque
spots in Mozambique.
It is remote, with a very low local population assuring pristine
and unspoilt conditions. Pomene Lodge is 605km north of Maputo and
170km south of Vilanculos. Access is by road (4x4 preferred, especially
during rainy season) or by air transfer from Inhambane.
Pomene lodge is situated on a narrow peninsula with the Indian
Ocean lapping at its front doorstep and crystal clear waters of
a spectacular mangrove estuary lapping on the other; it has the
best of both worlds. |
Accommodation
Pomene Water Chalets: 10 Water Chalets grace the estuary.
These are the newest addition to Pomene Lodge, sheltered from wind and
sea this is the perfect getaway for honeymooners or couples looking for
a "back to nature" experience.
The Pomene Water Chalets are all, en-suite with double bed and situated
within the tidal zone in the estuary.They are serviced daily but do however
not have air-conditioning.
Pomene Lodge currently runs on generator power and the power supply is
turned off in the evenings. Lights are available during the night from
a reserve power supply. These rooms are sold on a dinner, bed & breakfast
basis.
Please bring own swimming towels.
Pomene Self-catering chalets:
There are 3 self-catering chalets available at Pomene Lodge:
8 sleeper
6 sleeper
4 sleeper
All chalets at Pomene Lodge have cutlery, crockery, 2 plate gas cooker,
freezer and bedding including mosquito nets on all beds.
Each chalet has a separate toilet and shower with hot and cold water.
All cleaning materials and swimming towels are to be provided by guests.
The Den at Pomene Lodge: 4 x 1 roomed chalets each with
en-suite shower and toilet, sleeps maximum 2 people per room.
This cluster of chalets has a communal fully equipped kitchen, suitable
for a group of 8 people who are looking for a little more privacy than
living together in one chalet.
Pomene Barraca's and Campsites: The campsites at Pomene
Lodge are spacious and each has their own ablution block with hot and
cold water.
All campsites have electrical plug points. Pomene Barraca's are an open
sided thatched area, with plug point, suitable for storage & commonly
utilized as an open air eating / living area which can be booked along
with a campsite
Pomene Lodge Bar & Restaurant
The bar at Pomene Lodge overlooks the pool and estuary, a perfect spot
for sunsets and fishing tales. Enjoy a meal al fresco on the Pomene Lodge
restaurant balcony on the banks of the Pomene estuary. Fresh fish and
crab are menu favourites, however meals to suit all tastes are on offe
Pomene Lodge Activities
Pomene Scuba diving: The diving at Pomene is world class
and is regarded by some as the best diving in Mozambique.
The density & variety of marine life is astounding. We have 12 regular
dive sites and still many more to be explored. Our dive centre provides
all scuba equipment, air fills and regular departures to the reefs with
depths varying between 8 and 30 metres.
Pomene Lodge Dive Centre is a PADI affiliated dive resort.
Pomene Lodge Fishing: Pomene is renowned for offering
some of the best Game fishing in Mozambique. Hard fighting adversary's
such as Wahoo, Kingfish, Tuna,Couta & billfish congregate in these
waters to test your tackle and your skill.
We have a charter boat for hire, including an experienced skipper who
knows the local waters well. All rods, tackle and bait are included. The
un-spoilt waters of Pomene are world renowned for the most incredible
fish life.
Charter Boat Fishing: Our experienced resident fishermen
are on hand to introduce you to our excellent fishing waters.
A large number of game fish abound in these waters including sailfish
and pelagic species. This makes this area a prime destination for fishing
competitions.
Our ski boats offer the latest equipment and tackle to give you the edge
on catching the big one. We do encourage tag and release.
Dhow Trips: Take a trip on a dhow and feel a great sense
of history as the dhows are still built as they were in ancient times.
This is something that must be experienced before this age old tradition
dies out.
Water Sports: For water lovers a host of activities
are available. The bay is ideal for hobie-cat and laser dingy sailing.
Water skiing, snake rides, paddle ski’s, surfboards and boogie boards
are just some of the activities available.
Sightseeing: Inhambane City is steeped in history. This
was the southerly most trading port in Africa used by the Arabs. Vasco
Da Gama landed here in 1534.
The cathedrals, old colonial Portuguese architecture, African culture
and local markets make this a fascinating town to browse around.
A number of restaurants in and around Inhambane offer a variety of meal
options.
