Nhonguane Lodge Mozambique

Nhonguane Lodge is located 3km from Santa Maria village, on the peaceful Bay of Maputo.
A 600m walk along the beach to the notorious Hell’s Gate - the channel separating the Santa Maria Peninsula from Inhaca Island. Facing west we enjoy beautiful sunsets over the Bay.

With Inhaca a 10min boat trip across the channel. The local village of Santa Maria stock most necessities i.e. bread, oil, long-life milk, salt, sugar and various fresh produce.
Sea-food sold on site brought in by local vendors, prawns, crab and fish are usually available.

The lodge is situated along the beach of the Maputo Bay 1km from the channel separating the Machangulo Peninsula from Inhaca Island.
Facing west you can enjoy beautiful sunsets over the bay while enjoying a sundowner at the Lodge’s Beach Bar. As well as aquatic activities the area has beautiful coastal forest, and mangrove swamps to explore, with Santa Maria village a fusion of African and Portuguese.

Houses
We offer self-catering accommodation, fully equipped kitchens and daily service that will ensure peace of mind vacation for individuals, groups or the whole family.
Every bedroom has an en suite bathroom with tiled floors adding to the coolness in summer. All units are air-conditioned, and all windows have mosquito nets. There are beautiful local hardwood accents all houses from floors to doors.

Please note only two of the houses face the bay waterfront.

Safari Tented Camp
The safari-tented camp offers a very comfortable alternative for the nature lover. From waking up with the early morning bird calls to sitting under the stars at night, while still in the comfort of the necessary amenities.
The camp has a large thatched roof entertainment area with kitchen, bar counter and dining area. There is a social braai place under shady Marula trees.

The camp consists of 3 safari tents sleeping 4 people each. All tents have fans, en suite bathrooms and mosquito nets for every bed. This camp is a few meters from the deck leading down to the beach.

Where is Nhonguane Lodge?
From Maputo, travel for five hours via the Catembe Ferry. From Maputo, take the Cantebre Ferry over the lagoon to Cantabre. Head south along the R201 for approximately 42 km, straight through Bella Vista.
After another 18 km, turn left towards the east. After about 7 km, take the next sharp turn to the left heading north. After 25 km, turn left again at the T-junction heading north towards Maputo Bay and Machavene. Follow the road north until you reach Ponta Torres - Nhonguane Lodge.
