Welcome to Morrungulo Beach Lodge, a well established beach lodge and an old favourite to many visitors to Mozambique. Previously known as Ponta Morrungulo, Morrungulo Beach Lodge is approximately 580 km's North of Maputo set amongst a huge grove of coconut trees providing camping and selfcatering chalet facilities including luxury villa. Other facilities at the resort include a Reastaurant Bar and Swimming Pool.

Morrungulo has been voted as one of the best beaches in the Inhambane area. There are beautiful sea views, balmy evenings and romantic moon rises which are truly spectacular. Step straight onto a beautiful wide sandy clean beach from your chalet.

Accommodation at Morrungulo Beach Lodge

Beachfront Self Catering Chalets & Non Beachfront Casitas: All linen and mosquito nets are supplied but clients must bring their own towels, toiletries and cleaning materials, as these are not supplied. Domestics can be hired for cleaning, laundry etc. There is also the provision in the dining area to fold down the benches to accommodate another 2 guests. Should there be more than 4 people utilising the chalet there is an additional charge N.B. Clients must bring their own mattresses/nets/bedding for extra guests. Tents are not permitted in chalet grounds. Any items broken, damaged or lost will be charged for.

Beachfront Chalets
Self catering chalets sleeping 4-6 people

There are 7 Beachfront chalets, each of which can sleep 4 people in 2 bedrooms. Each chalet consists of kitchen/dining area equipped with deep freeze, 2 plate gas stove, crockery, cutlery, pots, etc. There is one hot and cold gas shower and separate toilet in each chalet. Each Beachfront Chalet also has its own private garden with built in umbrella and bench seats, braai area and outdoor shower.

There are 7 double storey self-catering units situated on the rise behind the chalets. These have 2 bedrooms (1 double bedroom downstairs and 2 single beds upstairs) Kitchen/dining area, one hot and cold gas shower and separate toilet. Casitas are equipped with deep freeze, 2 plate gas stove, crockery, cutlery, pots, etc. Each unit has its own braai.

Luxury Villa
4-6 sleeper luxury self-catering Villa

Morrungulo Beach Lodge Mozambique This beautiful villa is very private, located in a secluded spot on the hill near the restaurant with stunning views. There are 2 bedrooms in the villa each sleeping 2 people with en-suite bathroom and outdoor tropical shower. The villa has a kitchen equipped with small fridge, deep freeze, gas stove, crockery, cutlery for 8 people, pots, etc. and a separate lounge/dining area. Two additional guests can be accommodated on the fold out double sofa bed in the dining area.

There is a spash pool and lappa in front of the villa on a wooden decking, perfect for sundowners and braais.

Camping & Barracas

Morrungulo Beach Lodge MozambiqueThe camp rests under swaying coconut palms on the shores of the tropical Indian Ocean. It has extensive green lawns throughout the camp, shady indigenous trees, fresh drinking water and good security. Plug points are also available as an optional extra, note that power is only supplied during generator hours. Ablution blocks are fully tiled and equipped ith gas hot water showers - Bring your own toilet paper as this is not supplied.

Barracas: These are optional open thatched 4m x 4m concrete floored structures which come with a power point (5 amp), light and shelving. Most campers utilise these as a central living area and camp around the barraca.

Facilities at Morungulo Beach Lodge

Lunch & Dinnder is served at the“Ponta Morrungulo” Restaurant/bar restaurant. Meals consist mostly of fresh local seafood and delicious Mozambican dishes. Meals are prepared fresh daily.and guests can a sundowner overlooking the sea with breath-taking views. During busy times it would be advisable to book for the restaurant before 16h00. No orders after 8.30 pm. Restaurant and bar is closed on MONDAYS during the quiet season.

There is a salt water swimming pool at the restaurant.

Limited ice is available in peak season, sometimes demand can outweigh supply. Take your Coleman to fill.

DSTV will be available for main sporting features.

Campers have the use of clean, tiled ablution facilities with gas geyser showers and flushing toilets.

Power is supplied by generator which runs from 1.30pm to 9.30 p.m out of season and half an hour longer in season. Please ensure that you arrive at Morrungulo with your frozen foods already frozen. We suggest you use dry ice while travelling to ensure that your frozen goods remain frozen and ready to pop into the freezer. Avoid opening and closing the freezer as this will result in loss of temperature and foodstuffs will start to defrost.

Where is Morrungulo Beach Lodge?

Morrungulo Beach Lodge is 20km from the town of Massinga. There is a 13 km clay road from the main road turn to the lodge that is in good condition. 4 x 4 vehicles and high clearance caravans are recommended in times of heavy rain when the clay road can become “sticky” making it difficult for smaller vehicles, otherwise the road is in good condition. Sedans and minibuses can reach Morrungulo Beach Lodge when the road is in good condition.

Other Important Information for visiting Morrungulo Beach Lodge:

1. Please note that due to vehicle congestion and space in camp during peak periods e.g Xmas, only two vehicles will be allowed per camp site. Free parking is provided for other vehicles at specified points.

2. Check-in time 2 pm and check out time 9.30 am-10 a.m. on your last day of your holidays. Cleaning staff need to prepare for the next guests.

3. The camp runs off a generator which runs from 1.30pm to 9.30 p.m out of season and half an hour longer in season. Please note we do not supply double adaptors – please bring one with you. Please note only one double adaptor is allowed per plug point. Please do not use hairdryers, kettles or other heating appliances with an electrical element as this will trip the power supply. Most plugs are the 3 pin round SA type.

Only SILENT private generators are permitted in our camp. It is essential that clients bring a cable 80m long in case the generator needs to be moved away from other campers. Under no circumstances do we allow guests to run noisy ones, as this disturbs others..

Personal SILENT Generators may not be run before 7.30 am, between 12 noon – 2.30 pm or after 8pm.

4. Servants are available at a daily rate. Please do not employ any person without first speaking to our reception. Domestics must be paid for at the office only. Do not pay them direct.

5. Do not remove coral or live shells from the reef. Also, do not purchase undersized crayfish or crayfish in berry, i.e. with eggs. Do not buy shells from vendors as this encourages the trade. Hawkers usually sell fish, fresh prawns or crayfish on the beach. You are allowed to pick up the washed up shells you find on the beach.

6. Driving on the beach is illegal. If found doing so you are liable to pay fines, payable to Inhambane Port Authority: 20 000 mts You may only drive on the beach to the allocated launch site, in order to launch your boat.

QUAD BIKES AND MOTOR BIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN THE CAMP. NO JET SKIS PERMITTED IN FRONT OF THE CAMP – THIS IS A SAFE BATHING AREA.

7. Please use water sparingly. Use of hosepipes for washing vehicles and boats is prohibited during peak season.

8. Freshly baked bread rolls can be purchased daily from the local bakery just outside the camp.

9. Carry your vehicle papers and driving licence with you at all times. If you are towing you must display a triangle on your vehicle and trailer. New road rules specify drivers must carry a reflective vest and 2 red triangles in their vehicle. Please do not drive in Mozambique at night. It is dangerous with potholes, animals and vehicles travelling with no lights.

10. There is now a supermarket in Massinga. A general range of supplies is available such as tea, sugar, flour, spaghetti, margarine, matches, cigarettes, tinned goods, long life milk, candles etc. A limited amount of fresh fruit and vegetables is available from the market. Canned beers, cokes, locally made rum, brandy, whisky, vodka and bottled water also available. Perishables such as cheese and meat are NOT readily available, except in Maxixe, 80 kms away and can be pricey. Best to bring your meats and refridgerated goodies with you.

11. Firewood and charcoal and fresh bread rolls available just outside the camp. Occasionally you can also buy fish, prawns, lettuce, tomatoes and some fruit from the locals.

12. Essential items – Bring a braai clamp for your meat/wors, a torch/re-chargeable lights for after generator hours and adaptors/extension cables for appliances, lots of sunblock and some insect repellant. Fire grates available from reception for a refundable deposit.
