Welcome to Tembe Lodge
Tembe Lodge is 20km north of the Kosi Bay border, just south of Mamoli Bay.
The road from the border is a sand track so 4x4 is advisable but not necessary
if you feel your off-road skill is sufficient!
On arrival at the lodge you will be met by friendly staff who will cater for
your needs throughout your stay, such as making beds, cleaning, lighting your
fire and standing guard at night.
The lodge composes of 6 en-suite chalets, each sleeping a max of 4 people and a central living/kitchen area. Beds are under mosquito netting and the lodge is regularly sprayed to keep it free of any bugs! No linen or pillows are provided, please bring your own! There is hot and cold water, a basin and shower in each unit. The lodge is run by generator and most kitchen appliances use gas. Generator running times will be given to you on booking, depending on day length of the current season.
The rooms are nestled into a beautiful indigenous forest with views of the sea to the front. The central area comprises of a large lounge and dining room open plan to the kitchen. A large deck with lazy chairs is set off the front facing the sea and cool breezes. Behind this area is a huge boma for evening time relaxation around the fire and braaing. The kitchen has 3 deepfreezes, a gas stove and all necessary cutlery and crockery.
All units are connected to the central area by means of a wooden walkway. Wake up early with the call of a myriad of bird species and you may also see shy squirrels darting along the branches.
One has a number of pristine bays in which to fish (fly, surf, or paddle ski), snorkel, collect seashells or simply soak up the sun. The best beach at low tide is in front of the lodge and swimming and snorkeling is superb in the protected bay inside a large reef which runs out to sea. The drive down to the beach takes about 3 minutes. There are dozens of rock pools and a leisurely walk definitely relaxes the soul! Mamoli bay is a 1.5km drive north and this bay is also very protected, especially if a south wind is blowing. The lodge there does unfortunately not cater for day visitors. 6km to the south is Ponta Malangane and a further 5km south is Ponta d’Ouro. Numerous bars and restaurants are available if you feel the need to but curios or have a break from your seclusion at Tembe Lodge. They both offer scuba diving and dolphin viewing trips.
If you want to sample some Mozambiquan beer then our staff will point you to the closest baraca where the whole range of Moz beers are available. Patrons are most friendly and the vibe is ultra relaxed. Tembe Elephant Park is about 15km away and if you are tired of beaching, it will be worth a trip. Ask the lodge staff to organize you a guide as the road is sand tracks and rolling veld.
