Excellent accommodation. A very comfortable suite
of rooms with bedroom, big bathroom with full bath as well as shower,
living room and patio outside with table and chairs overlooking
the waterhole. All immaculately furnished and kept in excellent
spotless condition. The main building internally is in the style
of old African colonial house. Dining room, bar, sitting room, all
beautifully furnished and very well kept. In a legacy to its previous
use as a hunting lodge by his father, the current owner has retained
some trophies on the walls and animal skins which may not be to
everyone’s taste, and while I totally disagree with hunting,
we considered they were not out of place in this setting. A sparkling
swimming pool, again overlooking the swimming hole and beyond completes
this great setting. Breakfast consisted of buffet for juice, tea,
coffee and cereals. Hot breakfast was cooked, eggs, bacon, toast,
all freshly cooked. With a low number of guests, under 8 each night
when we were there, a menu is not offered but a fixed dinner of
waiter served three course meal.
Your preferences and requirements can of course be accommodated
if you let them know. Food was of a consistently high standard.
And the game drives are excellent value. It amazed me that some
people we spoke to were using the lodge as a stopover for the Waterberg
plateau and not having one drive on the lodge property ( guided
only, no self drive) Yet the day drive offers an enormous area with
drives up to the top of the plateau possible ( opposite side to
NWR ) and the variety of gazelle game, giraffes etc is excellent.
But the sundowner drive which concludes at their private lake,
its far too big even in dry season to be described as a waterhole,
is absolutely stunning with their hippos and rhinos. And because
few people took drives when we were there, every one was a private
game drive!
All the staff, but particularly the guide/driver, and especially
their receptionist, come manager, come organiser were excellent.
I regret we can’t recall the name of the young lady who ran
the place but she was an absolute treasure and would be a credit
to any lodge.
