The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and the largest in Africa.
160 km long and up to 550 metres deep in some places, this world-renowned natural wonder should be at the top of your to-do list when visiting Namibia.
The canyon is located in the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park and the entrance on the eastern side is closest to the main viewpoints over the Fish River Canyon.
This is also the starting point of the famous 85 km long Fish River Hiking Trail. Hobas camp is located at this entrance to the Park, a mere 6 km from the viewpoint.
Hobas Camp Accommodation
Accommodation at Hobas is much sought after, as it is ideally placed for hikers starting the Fish River Hike.
Only a privileged few can be accommodated here, as there are only 14 campsites available in the shade of the trees. Recently 6 Bush Chalets had been added to the facilities.

The six comfortable rooms are furnished with two single beds and can accommodate up to two adults.
Small children can be accommodated on a sofa bed. The small kitchenette provides tea/coffee making facilities, a sink and under-counter fridge.
The bathroom has a private toilet and shower and double basins.

Camping
There are 14 campsites at Hobas, laid out under beautiful shade trees, some sites having grass cover.
Each campsite has a power point, tap and barbeque facilities. Take note that Hobas runs on generator power which is only available until 10 pm.
The shared ablution facilities are kept neat and clean. Hot water showers are available.

Hobas Camp Amenities
A restaurant and bar are offered at this campite. Hobas has a supply store for guets to purchase extra things they may need during their stay. There is a swimming pool that guests can relax in.
What To Do at Hobas Camp
Already being inside the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, a visit to the main viewpoints over the Fish River Canyon is the main attraction when staying at Hobas.
This also offers the opportunity to enjoy watching the sunset over the Canyon.
Many hikers doing the Fish River Hiking Trail, prefer to stay here at Hobas for the night before their hike starts, as the starting point is only a few kilometres from the camp.
Vehicles can be safely parked at the camp and transfers from the finishing point at Ai-Ais back to the vehicles at Hobas, are available to hikers.
Guests can relax at and cool off in the swimming pool. The breakfast which is included in the rates is served at the restaurant and other meals are also served here.
