At the foot of the sandstone Omboroko Mountains, which is located halfway between the capital city of Windhoek and the Ethosha National Park, lies the Okonjima Nature Reserve. Since 1993 the reserve has been the home to the AfriCat Foundation - an organisation focused on the survival of Namibias predators in their natural environment.

Okanjima Lodge Otjiwarongo

In these 200 square kilometres of rolling plains, mountain outcrops and woody riverbanks, a guest farm was established on a cattle farm in 1986, but shortly after, the Hanssen family started focussing on the conservation of the carnivores which were constantly in conflict with the livestock farmers.

An environmental eduction and research centre was established, including rescue, release and rehabilitation programs. Visitors to Okonjima have the opportunity to experience the workings of the project and gain insight into carnivore conservation.
