Over millions of years, the intermittently flowing Fish River carved out a spectacular canyon through the semi-desert landscape of Southern Namibia. Over 160 km long, up to 27 km wide, and at places more than 550 metres deep, this breathtaking attraction, located in the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, ends at the hot springs resort, Ai-Ais.

What to Do at Ai-Ais Camping

The Fish River Hiking Trail is high up on the to-do list of every avid hiker, and this world-famous trail ends at the Ai-Ais Hot Springs Resort. Being 85 km long, this is not a hike to take lightly and must be booked well in advance. The hike can only be undertaken during the dry winter months from May to September as the route follows the flow of the river, and seasonal rain might make it impossible to complete during the rainy season.
