The Lodge is situated in the north-western part of Namibia, close to the Hoanib River, on the southern side of Kaokoveld. A gap in the mountains gives access to the valley basin of Sesfontein (Six Fountains), where lush green gardens give the landscape its special oasis character.
In 1896, the government of what was then German South-West Africa built the Fort Sesfontein as a control point for keeping in check cattle disease, arms smuggling, and illegal hunting of big animals.
The fort was abandoned in 1914, and only ruins and a small army cemetery still stood witness to the former German presence in Sesfontein.
Fort Sesfontein is the gateway to Kaokoveld, an area of some 50,000 km2 between the Hoanib and Cunene, the frontier river to Angola.
In the afternoon, you can take part in a scenic drive.
Untouched landscapes, such as sandy deserts and bizarre rock formations, vegetation, and wild animals like elephants, giraffes, zebras, oryx antelopes, and ostriches, can be discovered in their natural habitat beyond the reaches of civilisation.
