Sossusvlei and the surrounding dunes, which are some of the highest dunes in the world, is one of the main attractions of Namibia.
Over millions of years the Tsauchab River - which flows only occasionally after heavy rains in its catchment area - carved out a 30 m deep canyon in the arid landscape. From there it flows into the vleie where it disappears into the desert sand.
Only a few kilometres from the Sesriem entrance to the Namib Naukluft Park, Kulala Desert Lodge is located on the 37 000 hectare private Kulala Wilderness Reserve.
