The Waterberg Wilderness Private Nature Reserve is located in central Namibia, about halfway between Windhoek, the capital city, and the Etosha National Park.
The Park was established in 1972 and named after the prominent flat topped mountain that rises from the plains of the Omaheke Region of the Kalahari.
The red sandstone found at the upper level of the mountain absorbs rainwater during the wet season.
The base consists of impermeable rock, which allows the absorbed water to escape along this layer in the form of springs, giving the mountain and consequently the Park, its appropriate name.
Waterberg Plateau Campsite is located in a high-lying valley in the Waterberg Wilderness, not far from the entrance and reception of the park.

What To Do at Waterberg Plateau Campsite
The geological history of the Waterberg dates back 850 million years and in addition to dinosaur tracks, there are over 90 species of mammals, more than 200 species of birds and almost 500 plant species to discover. Activities are provided by the lodge or provided nearby.
Because the plateau is largely inaccessible from beneath, several of Namibia's endangered animal species were relocated into the area during the early 1970s to protect them from predators and poaching to extinction.
The programme was very successful and Waterberg now supplies other Namibian parks with rare animals.
Camping guests are welcome to join the activities offered and may enjoy dinner at the restaurants at the lodges.
