Locally owned and operated, Amarela is a charming 25 room beach resort, elegantly set on top of a gentle slope with stunning panoramic views of the Bohol Sea. A natural sandstone pathway runs through its lush gardens leading down to a private beach part of the longest stretch of white sand in Panglao Island, Bohol.

Amarela offers an authentic experience highlighting and preserving Bohol’s exceptional natural beauty, unique local culture and its people’s native warmth and hospitality. Guests have the chance to truly unwind and enjoy Bohol at it’s finest at Amarela.

Swimming Pool Naturally warmed by the sun and the bedrock upon which it was built, our swimming pool is set upon a plateau surrounded by lush landscape making it an ideal place for you to relax, unwind and feel at peace.

Library Take the time to catch up on your reading and viewing pleasure though Amarela’s extensive selection of books and movies. Culled from our owners’ own collection, the Amarela Library has since been supplemented over the years by guests’ generous donations. Board games are also available.

Herbal and Vegetable Garden Amarela has its own herb and vegetable garden on the property, nurtured and maintained through organic methods. Our garden produce includes tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, eggplants and cucumbers as well as parsley, mint, basil and tarragon all harvested for use in our dishes. This garden to table approach is an integral part of Amarela’s environmental initiative.

Art Gallery Bohol is known for its art and antiques reflecting the rich culture and tradition of the island. Amarela is dedicated to showcasing the works of these local artists and artisans through its Art Gallery. The colorful paintings, unique sculpture and intricate woodwork display amazing talent and creativity.

Boutique You can bring home mementos of an unforgettable stay from our Boutique, which carries a handpicked selection of handicrafts, accessories and other items. We source most of our merchandise from local artisans, community cooperatives and our own wood shop. Basic necessities you might need such as sunscreen, toothbrushes and the like are also available.

Dive Shop Known for its richly diverse marine life, Bohol is a choice divers’ destination. Our partner PADI certified dive masters can offer you an opportunity to learn how to dive or go out and explore the underwater environment amidst balmy waters and exceptional visibility.

In preparing delectable dishes, our kitchen takes pride in using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible as well as vegetables and herbs harvested from our garden.

Private Dining Allow Amarela to make a dining occasion truly special. Private dining options are available on an outdoor terrace, by the poolside, in our Pavilion or down by the beach. Our friendly staff will readily assist you with with the arrangements.

Experience

In Amarela, you can trade in the hustle and bustle of the city for the serenity and comfort of island life. Wake up before dawn and welcome the day with an amazing sunrise. Enjoy hearty meals at the Restaurant while enjoying the sound of birds chirping and the sweeping sea views. Take a leisurely stroll down to the beachfront and relax in hammocks or the custom-built lounge chairs. A long walk down the beach should not be missed and, during low tide, meander through the exposed seabed with its tide pools, hermit crabs and other fascinating features. Stay active with a nice jog up and down the beach. Have a swim and explore the waters with snorkeling gear upon request.

Kayaks and native outrigger boats are also available for your use. Beach volleyball, Frisbee or badminton equipment is also on hand.Lounge around in the pool while enjoying a refreshing cocktail. Nearby in the Pavilion, have fun with table tennis, darts or a fun game of mahjong. If you happen to be around after a full moon, you may be able to see a spectacular moonrise. You can also opt to enjoy the starlit sky by having dinner by the outdoor terrace or down by the beach. Admire the creativity and artistry of local talent in the Art Gallery, a showcase of paintings, sculpture and woodwork. Take home a meaningful memento by visiting our Boutique where native baskets and other carvings are available.

Design

Repurposed old wood from old houses in the region is used as the foundation for Amarela’s design. Antiques, local art and woodwork are everywhere, introducing Bohol’s unique culture and a giving you a sense of place. Vibrant Mediterranean colors and natural light are used to enhance the vivid surroundings, carefully cultivated through lush landscaping with indigenous flora. Amarela takes pride in its attention to detail creating an experience that is truly like no other.

Sustainability

Recycle In Amarela, we practice solid waste segregation and composting of kitchen and garden waste. Water is recycled through rainwater collection and the installation of a Reed Bed system. This system is a form of biological wastewater treatment, turning the wastewater from our bathrooms and kitchens into reusable water for landscaping. Amarela worked with Scotia, a USAid funded organization, and campaigned for the adoption of this system by establishments in the island.

Retain Amarela aims to retain as much energy as possible through energy efficient lighting and solar heating, providing heated water for our bathrooms and kitchens. We lessen our carbon footprint through reducing our plastic waste through practices such as using ceramic dispensers for bathroom amenities.

Revitalize Proudly homegrown, Amarela showcases local architecture, antiques and traditional furniture. We aim to breathe new life into old wood employing local artisans to rehabilitate or transform them into furniture and artwork. We foster outstanding local artists through patronage and by setting up an Art Gallery where they can exhibit their work.

Directions to Amarela Resort

Travel Information Bohol is easily accessible by plane and ferry.A straight flight from Manila to Tagbilaran airport (located in Bohol’s capital city) takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. There is a number of local airlines to choose from with varying times of departure in the morning and in the afternoon. From Cebu, it is a 2-hour ferry ride to the Tagbilaran pier. From the Tagbilaran airport and pier, Amarela is a short 20-minute scenic drive away.

Location Amarela is located on Panglao Island in Bohol, a premier tourist destination in the Philippines. Bohol is famous for its old churches, abundant natural attractions and rich cultural heritage. Panglao Island is renowned for its white-sand beaches.
