Kokusnuss Resort KokosNuss is a small, nice, family Resort in the town of Coron on the tropical Island of Busuanga, Province of Palawan, in the Republic of the Philippines. If you are interested to learn more about the accommodation at KokosNuss Resort, the location, how to get there and possible activities like diving our famous Japanese World War II wrecks, island hopping, horseback riding, vulcanic hot springs, motorbike tours, Calauit Island wildlife safari, sea safaris. |
Your Resort in CoronKokosNuss is the longest established resort facility in the town of Coron. If you are looking for an "action holiday" this is it. If you are looking for such things as the best wreck diving in the Philippines, sea safaris, snorkeling and island hopping, Coron is the place for you, but dont expect mass tourism or five stars hotels. We are proud to live at the "Last Frontier", in Palawan. In 1991, Rudolf Weih, a German national from Grosskrotzenburg am Main, decided to end his career as a high paid Dipl. Engineer at the research and development sector of Honeywell Company. After a 8 month journey through the Palawan Archipelago he finally decided to settle down in Coron Town on Busuanga Island, and start a small tourist business. At this time, Coron was still a typical Philippine fishermen's town. There wasnt any tourism development so far, but he saw a potential for it. In 1992 he opened his KokosNuss Garden Resort and Restaurant with a small eatery and only four cottages. In the past years tourism in Coron grew and KokosNuss Resort expanded in size and quality. Today, KokosNuss Resort consists of 18 individual cottages or bungalows and designer rooms, a large tropical garden with garden chairs and hammocks, and a delightful garden restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood and homemade specials in Asian and European style. We are located inlands just before the local hospital on the way into town. We will help you to find the best tours and arrange buses, jeepneys, boats and flights to other interesting places. |
RoomsKokosNuss Resort has a delightful restaurant and Bungalows constructed partially out of local materials in the traditional Philippine native style that is still found in many parts of Palawan. Each room is spacious, airy and bright. All of our rooms are amply furnished with soft, comfortable beds, clean linens and pillows, and clean bathrooms. A "nipa hut" is, as the name suggests, a very unsophisticated hut, made of bamboo. It sounds primitive, which you cannot deny, and also sounds very uncomfortable... WRONG! It is a well designed piece of local architecture which will keep you cool and dry. It also adds to the benefit of being totally natural, a little bit rustic, and to the pleasure and the adventure for visiting a remote island. If, on the other hand you consider yourself a member of the Idle Rich or if you have any ambitions in that direction you can have a deluxe bungalow accommodation, complete with an ensuite CR and shower, marble flooring and airconditioning. This is a luxurious indulgence that is not really necessary and not common in this "wild" area, but good for ones image as a member of the worlds jet setting glitterati. Room Type 1 Economy twin bed
rooms with fan and private bathroom, available for "walk-in"
only. The rooms come with a semi private gardenarea in front. |
Room Type 3 Large rooms with
aircon plus ceiling fan, spacious bathroom with toilet and hot and cold
shower. |
Tours and Activities Island Hopping across the Calamian Island Group
The Calamian Group of Islands, also called the Calamianes, consist of
over 80 islands and islets. Some of them are still deserted and unpopulated. The
most famous ones are located in Gutob Bay, the western part of the Calamianes.
These islands include Calumbuyan Island, which offers the most beautiful
coral reef of the Calamian Group, Malcapuya Island, Banana Island, North
and South Cay, Debutonay Island, Malajon Island (also known as Black Island)
with its beautiful caves, as well as Talampulan with its fishing village,
better known as Panlaitan. Cruising through Gutob Bay gives you the feeling
of being at the end of the world. And maybe behind the last island far
away at the horizon, there is a giant waterfall flowing down the edge
of the world. |

Here, Nature remains untouched. The Captain will bring
you to the best spots with his outrigger boat (banka). Our selected and
experienced captain or boatman will guide you. |
With the arrival of medicines in 1947, the number of
deseased was lowered dramatically until finally in 1992 the municipality
of Culion was founded and the island itself became free for new settlements.
The first municipal council in the history of this young settlement was
elected in 1995. Today, lepra is easily cured with cheap antibioitics
and is no longer present in Culion and may be extincted worldwide in the
near future. When making a one day boat trip to Culion, make sure to visit
the old spanish fort with its katholic church and the Lepra Museum close
to Culion Sanitarium. |
Calauit Island The 3700 hectare large Calauit Island is the sanctuary of African and Palawan wildlife threatened with extinction. Calauit was decreed a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary in August 1976 by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. t was the late President´s response to an earlier appeal made for Kenya by the International Union of Conservation of Nature to help save African animals caught in the midst of civil strife. Today giraffes, zebras and impalas live together with rare animals like bear cats, Calamian deer, mousedeer and Palawan peacocks, which are endemic to Palawan. The aviary is a recent addition.Entrance fee is 200p for Filipinos and 400p for foreigners. |
Boat from mainland to Calauit Island (10 min) is 500p
for the group. Tourtruck is 1000p for the group.Because of the long travel
time from Coron to Calauit Island (between 4 and 6 hours), we recommend
renting a van or jeep in Coron. Price varies from 5500-7000php depending
on how many passengers. |
If you don´t have a SCUBA diving license but
you would like to experience the beauty of Palawans underwater world?
No problem: You can choose from a variety of PADI programs, like for example
the "PADI Open Water Diver". |
The "Morozan Maru" is only in 14m depht which
makes this wreck an easy dive for beginners. |
Makinit Hot Springs Just 5 km from Coron town, at the end of the little village called "Makinit", two small and one large naturally occurring salt water springs on the shorefront, somehow bubbling from the mountainside despite their proximity to the sea. During the latter part of World War II, battalions of battle weary Japanese troops retreating from the Malaysian front made camp in this sitio to mend their wounds and rest for a few days. The healthy volcanic water here is in the range of 39-40 degrees Celsius. The "Makinit Hot Springs" can be reached by hiring a tricycle at 300-350pesos (3 hrs) the driver will wait for you until you're done, then bring you back to your resort. There is an entrance fee of 150pesos/person and 75 pesos for locals and residents. |
You can bring food and beverages BUT no alcohol (beer/spirits
is for sale inside the premises)The "Makinit Hot Springs" are
perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day or simply to enjoy a "hot
soak". |
Its a bit more difficult to climb the 640 meter high
Mt. Tundalara (it is the second highest mountain in Palawan). We strongly
recommend that you avail of a guide who can bring you and your friends
safely to the peak in a comfortable 3 to 4 hours hike. |
The YKR-Busuanga Airport is also located there.A few times a day you can see the small passenger airplanes touching down. To go on from the airport, drive to the beginning of the airstrip from where you take the road to "Decalachao". The village of Decalachao is located at the north-east shore of Busuanga Island. A two hours ride along the "National Highway" to the Concepcion Waterfall can be a very adventurous ride. The small village "Concepcion" is located 36 km east from Coron. The village itself is not spectacular, but very peaceful and idyllic. Right outside the village of Concepcion is a small Waterfall with a jungle pool. The local people will be happy to show you the way. |
There are many possibilities where to go by motorbike. Just drop by and we can give you some more information. Please drive slowly and carefully and try to wear some good shoes and long trousers as protective clothes. |
