Things To Do And Places To Visit Near Ayr: Burn's Cottage; The Tam O' Shanter Experience; Alloway's Auld Kirk; Burns Monument; and the famous Brig O' Doon. Situated about 10 miles south of Ayr, following the coast road, overlooking the Firth of Clyde and the Isle of Arran, is Culzean Castle and Country Park, which is one of Scotland's most popular attractions. Built in the 18th century, by Robert Adam, the castle has extensive grounds, which offer numerous walks, picnic areas and fantastic gardens, which have a wealth of exotic plants. Other castles within easy reach include Dundonald and Dean, as well as the ruins of Dunure and Greenan Castles. There are many first class golf courses in Ayrshire, and the guest house is situated within easy reach of most of them, including Turnberry, Royal Troon, Prestwick, not to mention Belleisle, one of the best municipal golf courses in Scotland.
