It was the first planned village in Scotland, and is contemporary with Edinburgh's New Town. The village is laid out in a grid, with Main Street as the central axis. Main Street runs from the Round Church, Bowmore's architectural gem, nearly to the pier, where Shore Street begins. An Cuan Bed and Breakfast is located on Jamieson Street, which branches off from Main Street, and is close to both the Round Church and to the world-famous Bowmore Distillery.
