Castle Douglas hotel Craigrobin is a 4 Star Rated self-catering traditional Galloway cottage situated in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway.

It is set in 225 acres of Barmurrie Farm with its glorious walks, fabulous free range food, a pet's corner and trout fishing. More details on what the farm has to offer below.

Craigrobin Accommodation

The beautifully decorated Cottage, opened in July 2009, sleeps 7 and has 3 large bedrooms, 2 en-suites, a family bathroom, large lounge with a wood burner and spacious kitchen and dining room. Located in beautiful grounds our holiday home is approached by a private tree lined drive and has panoramic views over unspoiled landscape towards the Rhinns of Kells.

Our holiday cottage was decorated throughout and completely refurbished in Spring 2009. Mains supply smoke detectors are fitted. Upstairs there are varnished original floorboards throughout.

The gardens consist of glorious herbaceous plants with a 'wee' burn running through it. Outdoors there are barbeque facilities where you can relax, dine and maybe sip the odd dram of whisky as you take in the stunning views and attractive gardens.

A special welcome pack of free range eggs, bacon, sausage and seasonal vegetables produced at Barmurrie Farm will greet every party.

Craigrobin is ideally located near tourist attractions such as Cream o' Galloway and Castle Douglas as well as activities such as water skiing, mountain biking, horse riding, sailing, magnificent walks, fishing and golf.

Smoking Policy
There is strictly NO smoking in any of the rooms.

Pet Policy
There is a kennel for one dog at Craigrobin which can go ONLY in the kitchen area - a larger number of dogs can be kenneled at the farm.

Barmurrie Farm
Craigrobin is set in the 225 acres of Barmurrie Farm which, apart from walks in the glorious countryside, has a children's pet corner with not only are there rabbits, guinea pigs, lambs, ponies but llamas, peacocks and ornamental ducks.

Barmurrie Farm also has two duck ponds, trout ponds (permits available) and several breeding pairs of red kites. At the farm you can buy free range hen and duck eggs as well as free range chicken and pork.

Horse 'Bed and Breakfast' and although dogs are not allowed in Craigrobin they are welcome to be kenneled at the farm.

Stunning views can be enjoyed all round Craigrobin in both summer and winter. In the same grounds and close by at Barmurrie Farm.

Children are welcome to collect eggs and help feed the animals - if you visit the pet corner at the right time of year you'll be able to see baby chicks and ducklings.

Fishing in our trout pond is available at a discount price. Nature walks on the farm are particularly good at the moment - several pairs of red kite have hatched this year, ducklings and gosling on the ponds, curlews and oyster catchers breeding.

Attractions
The luxury Craigrobin holiday cottage in Dumfries and Galloway is the perfect location to visit castles, tourist attractions and participate in a wide range of activities for the young and not so young.

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, the historic 17th Century home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. It is steeped in history, filled with treasures and boasts beautiful Victorian gardens, way-marked woodland walks, cycle routes and championship mountain bike trails, and adventure playground for the children.

It also offers some of the best sporting opportunities in Scotland. Bike hire available, tea room and snack bar. Fabulous events throughout the season. An excellent day out for all the family.

There are more castles to be discovered all over the region such as Caerlaverock Castle 7 miles south of Dumfries.

Castle Douglas the 'food town' of Dumfries and Galloway is only 15 miles away has an excellent selection of shops. It also has a swimming pool and is home to Threave Gardens and Estate and Threave Castle.

The Cat Strand
A unique venue in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway where a warm welcome awaits you. There's a year round events programme, arts and community activities, local arts and crafts, exhibitions, film, workshops, classes and training courses, free internet access, tourist and heritage information, cafe and refreshments and bus trips.

Cream o' Galloway, 15 miles away, an award winning attraction, is a family run organic farm in Dumfries and Galloway. You can join a farm tour, spot wildlife, enjoy local and ethical food, taste fabulous homemade ice cream and play in a natural adventure playground built for young and old alike.

Burns National Heritage Park at Alloway, about 20 miles away, has the birthplace of Scotland’s bets loved poet. Here you can 'experience' the rich heritage of Robbie Burns ‘within the environment which inspired his imagination’ and there’s also the Robert Burns Centre at Dumfries.

At Ayr, 30 miles away, you can shop or enjoy a Day at the Races.

Leisure Activities and Sports
A short drive away (approx 4 miles) you’ll discover an area of natural beauty - the picturesque and unspoiled Loch Ken, where activities include water sports, fishing, walking and much more. There’s so much to see and do.

The Galloway Activity Centre 4 miles away offers much more than its title suggests. You can also windsurf, kayak, canoe or power boat and on dry land test your aim at archery, quad bike, mountain bike and climb.

Not far away the Loch Ken Water Ski School also offers wake boarding tuition, power boat and ringo rides.

There’s great walking areas on the Southern Upland Way, forestry trails next to Barmurrie and further afield. Mountain biking and horse riding in surrounding forests. Visit the Galloway Forest website for more information.

Eating
The attractive Balmaclellan village with shop and post office is a mile away and bar meals are available at the local pubs about 2 miles from the cottage. There’s also a clog and shoe workshop, a pottery and an artist’s studio and gallery.

At Corsock, Pringles Bar serves Barmurrie Farm's very own free range pork, chicken and lamb.

About 5 Miles away you can find Lochinvar Hotel situated next to the Galloway Forest National Park. You can eat in and taste great food or ‘takeaway’ to keep you on the move.

Ferry Services
Further afield about 1 hour drive away are Stranraer and Cairnryan Ferry Ports were you can cross to Ireland and the Girvan ferry to Arran is also about 1 hour away.
