offering comfortable and stylish en suite accommodation and conveniently
situated in the small market town of Castle Douglas.
You will find that this is the ideal base from which to explore the
undiscovered gems of Dumfries and Galloway and the Solway coast, often
referred to as the Scottish Riviera.
You are assured of a warm and friendly welcome by the owners, Keith and
Linda Harrison, previously chef and proprietors of Ashfield House in the
Yorkshire Dales where they were featured on merit for 15 years in the
Which? Hotel Guide and the Good Hotel Guide.
Douglas House Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
Douglas House offers recently refurbished high quality accommodation
in Castle Douglas and benefits from full central heating. The light and
airy breakfast room has individual tables, and there is a comfortable
lounge area that guests are free to use at any time.
Our accommodation comprises of 4 bedrooms, all with modern en-suite
facilities, two of the double rooms having Kingsize beds and the third
having either twin or super kingsize bed. The fourth is a small single
on the ground floor.
All the rooms are tastefully furnished, with TV/DVD player, beverage
tray, hairdryer, clock radio and a selection of up-to-date magazines.
The twin/super kingsize room is particularly spacious and is wheelchair
friendly, and the large en-suite bathroom has both bath and shower - ideal
disabled holiday accommodation. Free internet WI-FI broadband access in
all rooms.
Easy, free and unrestricted on street parking is available in front
of and adjacent to Douglas House (we also have secure parking for bicycles).
Remember - this is a sparsely populated part of Scotland!

Castle Douglas
The small, bustling market town of Castle Douglas is known as the shopping
gem of Dumfries and Galloway, but is also the gateway to an area of outstanding
natural beauty.
Dumfries and Galloway
All the beauties of the area, including the high granite mountains of
the Galloway Hills, the Galloway Forest Park (which is the UK’s
largest forest park), the Solway coast and the tranquil freshwater lochs
are all easily accessible from Douglas House.
No queues in Galloway!
Dumfries and Galloway can be enjoyed either on foot, by bicycle or by
car, and if you choose the easy option you will be surprised at the lack
of queues and traffic jams!
Gardens
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the area enjoys a mild climate and has all
year round attractions. There are over 30 Gardens to
visit including Threave Gardens Scotland's school for gardeners showcase,
that is only about a mile away. Logan Botanic Garden, Broughton House
Garden and Glenwhan are just a few of the others.

Castle Douglas is the 'Food Town'. There are over 50
local businesses dedicated to the provision of fresh local food. The best
might possibly be our breakfast !!!

There are so many great things to do as a family, Cream'o'Galloway
has a fantastic adventure trail, you can make your own pots and take them
home from Dalton Potteries, horse trekking, 4x4 buggy rides, sea trips
to see dolphins, and a selection of great beaches and rocky coves.
Art in Dumfries and Galloway
This region is renowned for its art and artists, and you may just come
across magnificent works as you are out and about. The 'Spring Fing' opens
over 50 artist studios to the public but art is part of our culture and
will not be far away. Kirkcudbright is famous for the 'Scottish Colourists'.
You can even find a Henry Moore or a Goldsworthy on a walk .
7 Stanes - Mountain Biking Heaven
Castle Douglas is located at the centre of 5 of the 7 Stanes. Scotland
premier mountain biking routes. Each route has 3 versions for the easy,
medium and hard rides. Your bikes will be safe in our private bike store.
Castles and History
Threave Castle is just two miles away is one of Scotland's most famous
castles, set on an island on the Dee river below loch Ken was once the
home of the 'Black Douglases' and built by Archibald the Grim. Why 'grim'
you will need to visit to find out.

The ever changing atmosphere of the Solway coast offers fascinating
beach and mud flat exploration only fifteen minutes drive from Douglas
House.

DIRECTIONS
Castle Douglas sits at the bottom of Loch Ken and the Dee valley.
Getting there from the Information Centre:
Turn left on leaving Tourist Information Centre. Cross car park into Queen
Street. Turn right and proceed down Queen Street for 300 yards. Douglas
House is on the left, on the corner of Queen Street and Academy Street.
