Gelston Lodge Cottages AccommodationOur luxurious holiday cottages in Scotland have all been recently converted from 150 year old stone barns to a very high standard and are tastefully furnished, with all the comforts of home, all have private parking, garden & patio and great views. Screel and Doach Self Catering Cottages Doach Cottage sleeps 4, enter through patio doors into a comfortable and tastefully furnished open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room. A wood burning stove is built into the inglenook fire place for those cosy winter nights. Each cottage has a television, DVD player, video recorder, CD player, washing machine, electric oven and gas hob. There is an under stairs cupboard / cloakroom and downstairs WC. Upstairs a fully tiled bathroom with bath / shower WC and sink. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one is a double with a large wardrobe space, a view out to the countryside and a big comfy double bed. There is also a twin bedroom. The Long Barn Off the kitchen there is a tastefully decorated cosy sitting room with leather chesterfield, wing chairs and a wood burning stove built into an inglenook fire place for these romantic winter nights. There are 2 bedrooms. One double with a comfy king sized bed dressing table and chest of drawers. One twin room with a large double wardrobe. Apart from the satisfaction of achieving the summit, there are some magnificent views over the Solway Coast. A few minutes drive north takes to the region's food town of Castle Douglas, a real gastronomic treat, with its bustling main street filled with filled cafes, restaurants, bars, delis, bakers and four speciality butchers. All with a variety of local produce to tantalize you - holiday cottages Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland. Alternatively you can take the coast road west through Auchencairn and the smugglers bay at Balcary to the picturesque artists town of Kirkcudbright, or go east by Palnackie famous for its world flounder tramping championship on your way to the beaches of Sandyhills. Mountain Biking in Dumfries and Galloway is a real
treat. We are close to five of the world famous Dumfries and Galloway is a fisherman's delight, with loch, river, sea and coastal fishing on your doorstep. From Salmon and Trout fishing to coarse fishing. You can pick up day licenses from Castle Douglas. We are very lucky to be surrounded by about 30 public gardens, Including Threave Garden, Cally Gardens and Logan Botanic Gardens. 30 Golf courses are within an hours drive of Gelston Lodge Holiday Cottages. From championship golf courses like Southerness, to scenic courses like Colvend and Dalry. You can purchase 1 day, 3 day and week passes. There are many equestrian centres in Dumfries and Galloway. You can trek across the sands at low tide, or into the forest on the many tracks the forestry commission have made. This is a very historic region with Castles and Houses and Stone circles dating back to the neolithic period. Particularly interesting are the sites that are connected with Robert the Bruce, King Balliol and William Wallace. Just along the Coast is Kippford which is the local coastal sailing location, the area also benefits from many Lochs and we have a sailing centre close by on Loch Ken that really welcome families. This region is famous for its art. Kirkcudbright was the holiday location for the famous 'Glasgow Boys' movement, with Hornel the main Artist of the group. His house is open to the public. The 'Spring Fling' kicks off the season. There are many places of interest to see!! Auchencairn is the closest village. New Abbey is a picturesque village which grew up around Sweetheart Abbey where Dervogilla Balliol kept the heart of her dear husband John until she died. John was the founder of Balliol College Oxford and was rightful King of Scotland. The nearby beaches of Sandyhills, Rockcliffe, Balcary Bay and Carrick are extensive, whilst there are miles of walks along the cliffs at Rascarrel and seventeen miles of walks in Dalbeattie forest alone. The Doach wood is just over the hill from your cottage and is dominated by some of the tallest trees in the south west of Scotland, that soar over 40 metres from the forest floor.
