One bag of coal supplied (extra can be bought from farm on request). Electricity charged by meter reading. Bed linen provided. Dumfries, the largest town in the area, with its wide range of shops, ice skating,ice hockey, indoor carpet bowls, cinema and Robert Burns Centre, House and Mausoleum, is 23 miles away. There are attractive sandy beaches, picturesque coastal resorts, castles, abbeys and historic towns and villages stretching from Sandyhills, Rockcliffe and Kippford in the east to Isle of Whithorn, Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway in the south west. Not to be missed is the grandeur of Upland Galloway, culminating in Glen Trool, The Bruce's Stone, and Southern Scotland's highest peak, Merrick (2762ft). Lying only 500 meters from the sea, the cottage forms an ideal base for walking with local costal, hill and forest walks of a varying length. Locally, bird watching, fishing and golfing are popular pursuits. Auchencairn village is 2 miles away, and has a post office, garage and Old Smugglers Inn with good food and bar. The surrounding towns offer a range of shops, hotels and restaurants catering for a wide variety of tastes and pockets.
