Welcome to Loch Ken Holiday Park! A peaceful haven in an area of outstanding beauty with a wealth of wildlife. Wild duck, swans and red kite are regular inhabitants. Adjacent is the RSPB bird reservation and the Galloway Forest Park which offer our visitors many opportunities to walk, climb, cycle and bird watch. The camp site occupies ten acres on the boundary of the Bryson family, six hundred acre stock farm. The fishing is excellent, many fishermen return each year to catch the famous Loch Ken pike, roach and perch. Parton is in the centre of Galloway with the delightful market "food town" of Castle Douglas, seven miles away, and the "art town" of Kirkcudbright fifteen miles away. Loch Ken Holiday Park Facilities · NEW: Four holiday homes to let Holiday Homes They are 2 or 3 bedrooms, perfect for a family holiday or a fishing break. We have holiday homes on the waterfront, 2nd row and 3rd row. All of the holiday homes have: Come and have a holiday at Loch ken Holiday Park, we are a family run and owned business and we pride ourselves in creating a family atmosphere at a beautiful location in the heart of Galloway on the shores of Loch Ken. The holiday homes are supplied with with duvets and pillows. Please bring your own linen. No sleeping bags available. Touring There are water points located frequently around the park and a chemical and waste disposal area. We are very proud of our newly renovated toilet block which has lashings of ‘free’ hot water, hairdryers and spacious family rooms with baby changing facilities. We also have a private disabled toilet and shower facilities and a well equipped laundry. Camping There is a very well equipped toilet and shower block with power showers. New for 2011 dishwashing area within the tent field. Please book your party in at reception as soon as you arrive. All pitches are allocated by the management and should not be occupied before booking in. If you arrive after the office has closed please book in before 10am the following morning. Pitches must be vacated by 12 noon on day of departure. Pet Policy Activities and Attractions Fishing Loch Ken Anyone fishing our stretch at the Loch Ken Holiday Park may have two lines maximum in the water at any one time. Other rods, although not actually fishing, must not occupy pegs on the bank. Unless you intend to eat them, fish should be returned to the water in a healthy state. Fishing is allowed by permit only. Fishing permits are available at the shop, or in advance sending a cheque to Loch Ken Holiday Park. The permits we issue are for our frontage only. Children up to 15 years - no charge. Please note: All rubbish including discarded fishing tackle, especially line and hooks, must be gathered up and put in the bins provided. Bottles and cans must be put in the recycling bins, which are also provided on the park. *Boat Hire: does not include a fishing permit. Boats and canoes must
be returned to their mooring. Bicycle Hire Available. Water Sports Visitors bringing their own boats to the Park must observe carefully
all rules and conditions below. These are due for all motor boats on the loch and are payable to Dumfries and Galloway Council. Visitors to Loch Ken Holiday Park can register at the park shop. PLEASE NOTE: Parking / Launching / Mooring Fees: Sailing, Windsurfing, Rowing and Canoe - FREE! Birdwatching / Galloway Red Kite Trail Kites can be seen from any part of this walk at any time of year. Just a short drive away is the Ballymack Hill Farm (feeding station), where you can see these majestic birds feeding. Other birds to look out for around and about include the nuthatch, willow tit, great-spotted woodpecker, goldcrest, sparrowhawk, barn owl, buzzard, red grouse, black grouse, oyster catcher, greylag, & heron etc.. Mountain Biking Around and About The region has a long and colourful history, is rich in archaeological sites, and has associations with many famous historic and literary figures. Within the region, the quiet country roads offer unhurried touring opportunities. The Dumfries and Galloway Tourist Guide lists 115 places of special interest. Included are the early Christian 'Whithorn Excavations', 'Priory and Museum' - the site of the first Christian church in Scotland; Sweetheart Abbey, nineteen castles, including Drumlanrig, the home of The Duke of Buccleuch; and eight gardens including the National Trust Garden at Threave, Castle Douglas. There are a number of bird sanctuaries, 'open' farms, countryside parks and forest walks, plus many museums, craft workshops, galleries and other attractions. Robert Burns spent the last years of his life in Dumfries. He is buried in St. Michael's churchyard in the town and the Burns centre beside the River Nith in Dumfries is worth visiting. Visitors to Galloway are assured of a warm welcome - as one of the most remarked-upon attractions of the area is the friendliness of the local people.
