West Barmoffity Farmhouse offers comfortable, farmhouse, bed and breakfast
accommodation in Kirkpatrick Durham near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and
Galloway.
West Barmoffity Farmhouse was built to a high specification in 2007 and
finished in local stone, blending timelessly into its surroundings.
West Barmoffity Accommodation
The accommodation at West Barmoffity Farmhouse offers a beautifully presented
double bedded room with en suite facilities, a sofa bed is available if
required as a family room. This room is to the front of the property,
south facing with extensive views.
The second room available is a spacious twin bedded room, also with ensuite
facilities facing north also with good views. Both of our rooms are tastefully
decorated and furnished to a very high standard to ensure our guest's
comfort.
There are tea/coffee making facilities in both rooms. We now have televisions
in both rooms and guests may also use the TV in the lounge.
Our Facilities
Guests are welcome to use the lounge, which boasts beautiful views, a
log burner and Sky tv, guests are also welcome to use the garden.
For our mountain biking or cycling guests we can offer washing down facilities
for bikes, lock up for the bikes. We also offer packed lunches and washing
& drying facilities for clothing.
Our Food
At West Barmoffity we pride ourselves on our home cooked food
with as many of the ingredients as possible sourced from local producers.
Evening meals are available if pre-booked , all produce is locally sourced.

West Barmoffity Farmhouse is situated on a working farm set in
a beautiful location just outside the picturesque hamlet of Kirkpatrick
Durham, near Castle Douglas with stunning views over the surrounding Galloway
countryside.
Activities and Attractions
Everywhere in Dumfries and Galloway the visitor will find a multitude
of outdoor activities to thrill and entertain and quaint towns and villages
that will entice you back to enjoy memorable holidays in this magical
corner of Scotland.
Fishing
There a various trout lochs and salmon rivers in the area within easy
reach of West Barmoffity, offering some exciting sport. Pike fishing is
renowned in Galloway especially on Loch Ken which is the venue for many
course fishing competitions over the year. Loch Ken is some 11 miles long
and tickets are available from various sources.
Mountain Biking
The 7 Stanes mountain bike trials offers a magical
combination of wilderness experience, breathtaking views and a continuous
rollercoaster of excitement on the World's best single track adventure
right here in southern Scotland.
Cycling
It is often remarked upon by visitors how quiet our roads are
and how appealing they are to cycling. Countless numbers of quiet country
roads and lanes with stunning views of the countryside and wildlife provide
an excellent opportunity to get on your bike and explore the area.
Golf
Scotland is generally known as the home of golf and Southern Scotland
offers some challenging courses. With a mixture of fun and serious courses,
coastal winds can add to the demands of the game.
Walking
West Barmoffity is ideally situated to enjoy an abundance of
walking from local riverside walks and village strolls to Scotland's 212
coast to coast long distance route, the Southern Upland Way.
Bird Watching
For years bird watchers have visited the area to experience many species
of birds from wild geese to birds of prey. The Galloway Red Kite Trail
is extremely popular with many visitors where these fantastic birds can
be seen throughout the area plus at close quarters at the feed station
at Laurieston.
Game Shooting
Scotland and in particular Galloway is renowned for its country sports
and many shooters visit the area throughout the season. Pheasant and Partridge
shooting as well as duck and geese and the abundance of rabbits make this
a popular area from visitors from all over the world.
Galloway Forest Park
Britain's largest forest park at three hundred and seventy three square
miles (equivalent to over 100,000 football pitches!) with over 300 kilometers
of walking and cycle paths, is waiting to be explored.
The Galloway Forest Park is already renowned for its abundance of natural
beauty, wildlife, world class outdoor activities, peace and quiet but
now can add darkness to this impressive list. It is the unique levels
of darkness that makes the Galloway Forest Park worthy of the recently
received 'Dark Skies' Park award and such a spectacular
place to look at nature at night as much as during the daytime.
The Galloway Forest offers something for everyone and all ages, from
forest drives through the many picturesque forest roads, to Red Deer and
wild Goat parks as well as many off-road tracks for cycles and walkers,
with lots of wildlife just waiting to be met.
Water Sports
Loch Ken offers fantastic water sports from sailing to water-skiing and
several venues are available to take care of you. For a complete range

Castle Douglas Food Town
Shoppers from near and far can see the array of food produce
available through the local family businesses that operate in King Street
which runs through the centre of the town. One walk down this street enables
shoppers to step back in time and shop in a relaxed manner and enjoy the
experience of seeing quality products being displayed and sold.
In and around King Street there are also many other businesses that support
the Town's needs as well as a Supermarket. Parking is free and easy with
large car park facilities. Gift and Fashion shops are also available and
these offer the finest quality products and you will be really surprised
at what is available in the gift and craft shops.
An important part of the Food Town Initiative is to involve the whole
Town in a number of events that take place during the year. These include
Food and Craft Fairs such as Food Town Day at the end of May, chef demonstrations,
special food related week-ends and regular themed menus provided by the
town's excellent hotels, cafes and restaurants.
DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:
From Castle Douglas follow A75 east to Springholm, midway through Springholm,
turn left signposted to Kirkpatrick Durham, when in Kirkpatrick Durham
go straight ahead at crossroads for approx. 20 yards then turn right onto
farm track signposted Barmoffity, follow track for almost ½ mile
West Barmoffity Farmhouse is situated on the left.
Getting There by Railway:
Dumfries is the nearest train station.
Getting There by Ferry:
From Stranraer take the A75 east for approx. 65 miles to Springholm then
follow as above.
