Other places to stay in and around Crail
|
For years, they've holidayed in the idyllic seaside village of Crail.
From learning to swim in the North Sea to playing on some of the world's
greatest golf courses or feasting on the freshest shellfish imaginable
down at the harbor, there truly is something for everyone here. Which
is why, in 2009, they decided to buy Garden Cottage.
Garden Cottage, a luxury self catering accommodation set in private
gardens just off the main street, has three bedrooms and can comfortably
sleep eight.
Spacious, modern and luxurious, the beach, shops and pubs are but a
short stroll away. There's also private off street parking for two cars
right outside the front door.
Crail Garden Cottage Accommodation
When you're on holiday, it's important you feel comfortable and relaxed.
Worry not. Garden Cottage has just about every mod con you could wish
for. Like a dishwasher in the kitchen, multi channel digital TV in the
lounge and a jacuzzi bath. On top of that, there are a few more traditional
extras too - like a large selection of books and board games.
The fully enclosed rear gardens means you can put your feet up while
the children play safely to their hearts' content. There's a large lawned
area that's as ideal for sunbathing as it is a kick around and a patio
with garden furniture and a BBQ. The patio also has outside lighting,
so you can stay out long after the sun goes down.
Family Bedroom
This spacious ground floor bedroom is fit for a king size. In fact, it
has one. It also has bunk beds, triple wardrobes, a large chest of drawers,
TV and DVD player.
Bathroom
This luxury suite has a jacuzzi bath and a shower over the bath.
Living and Eating
A large, open plan space to the rear of the cottage accommodates the kitchen,
dining and living areas.
High spec and fully fitted equipped, the kitchen comes complete with a
SMEG range cooker, microwave, large fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher
and all the crockery and cutlery you're ever likely to need - all you
need to bring is the chef! To the side is a large dining table that seats
eight comfortably.
There's a cosy TV area, ideal for a family chill-out after a busy day
exploring. It has a large, comfy corner sofa by the fire and a widescreen
multi-channel digital TV, DVD player and PlayStation 2 (with loads of
games).
One of they favorite spots in the cottage are the two large sofas at the
back of the living area. With French doors on three sides that open onto
the private garden, this area is flooded with natural daylight and is
ideal for spending a bit of quiet 'me time', relaxing, reading the paper
and enjoying a cuppa.
UPPER FLOOR

This spacious room has a king size bed, double wardrobes, a chest of drawers,

Here, you'll find two single beds, large built in wardrobes, chest of

Activities:
If you love the outdoors, you'll love the East Neuk of Fife. Here are
some activities we enjoy when we're at the cottage:
Golf
You'll be spoiled for choice. The two courses at Crail Golfing Society
are a treat for any golfer and, for something special, the Old Course
at St Andrews and Kingsbarns Links are hard to beat.
Fishing
You can sea fish by boat or from the coastal rocks.
Water Sports
There's windsurfing or sailing and, for the foolhardy, you can even risk
riding the banana boat at Elie's Water Sports Center.
Cycling
The nearby Millennium Cycle Way is a network of safe cycle routes that
take in some spectacular scenery.
Sailing
Take a boat trip to the Isle of May to see the breeding sea birds and
colony of grey seals.
Children's Outdoor Play
Craigtoun Country Park in St Andrews has train and boat rides, adventure
playgrounds, trampolines and bouncy castles and great picnicing facilities.
There's also Carnegie Mega Maze at Cupar which our boys just love!
Horse riding
They usually go to Kinshaldy Riding Stables in Tentsmuir (about half an
hour's drive from Crail) because it offers hacks through the forest and
along the beach but there's also a much more local option at Conceres
about 5 mins from the cottage.
Nature spotting
You can feed the fish at St Andrews Aquarium and watch the falconry displays,
feed the deer or play on treetop walkways at the Deer Center, just outside
Cupar. We love the coastal walk where you can often spot seals and, occasionally,
dolphins playing just yards away
Shopping
The student population ensures St Andrews has a wide variety of excellent
shops. When only a city will do, Dundee and Edinburgh are both easily
reached.
When the weather is not so good
Unfortunately it does sometimes rain. But worry not, there's lots to do
indoors. Some of our favorites include swimming at the East Sands Center
in St Andrews, visiting Discovery Point Dundee, taking in a movie at the
cinema in St Andrews or visiting the Secret Bunker. There's also the opportunity
of a day trip to Edinburgh (1hr 15 mins by car), Glasgow (2 hrs) or Perth
(1 hr).
Eating out
You can't visit Crail without a trip (or two) to the village chippie.
But if you fancy something a bit more refined here are a few of our favourite
haunts within the village itself.
