At Galloway Country Cottages we offer 5 luxury Self-Catering holiday lodges for families, couples and groups - large or small in Dumfries and Galloway at Sandyhills Bay on the beautiful Solway Coast.
All of our self catering holiday lodges are situated around the hamlet of Sandyhills (Barend Holiday Village) on the lovely Solway Coast of Dumfries and Galloway.
From luxury Traditional Scandinavian 'A' frame holiday lodges set in the parkland of Barend Holiday Village with views south over Sandyhills Bay in the Solway Firth towards the Lake District to traditional stone built Galloway country cottages nestling down in the hamlet of Sandyhills - a stone’s throw from the beautiful Sandyhills beach.
Galloway Country Cottages Accommodation
All of our Galloway Country Cottages self-catering holiday lodges at Barend Holiday Village in Dumfries and Galloway are dog friendly, furnished and equipped to a high standard; all have partial double glazing and are fully centrally heated - ensuring warm and comfortable holidays throughout the year.
Kitchens are equipped to cook to a good standard with scales, hand blenders and ample cutlery, crockery and utensils. Holiday patio furniture is available at all, barbecues at some. At Galloway Country Cottages we aim to provide self-catering holiday lodges at Sandyhills in Galloway, as good as home.
Although only situated just over an hour’s drive from the M6 & M74 motorways - your holiday lodges in Dumfries and Galloway are deep in the relaxing Galloway countryside yet ideally situated to get out and explore .
Kingfisher Lodge
Set in an elevated position our Scandinavian Self Catering Holiday Lodge
in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway, called Kingfisher Lodge, overlooks
our own loch & has stunning views from the main deck to the Galloway
woods opposite and directly across to the hilly Colvend Golf Club, and
from the upper deck out across Sandyhills Bay and the Solway Firth to
the Lake District.
Layout
· Level access from the gravel path into the large airy
entrance hall.
· Door to double bedroom with a zip and link deep divan offering
a choice of deep sprung twin beds or a superking divan and opposite to
the house bathroom which comprises of bath with shower over, toilet and
washbasin.
· Open tread carpeted staircase to upper floor.
· Door through to large lounge with patio doors to the deck overlooking
the Galloway countryside.
· Dining area with door to deck with fully fitted kitchen.
· Stairs from the hall leading to the large twin bedroom/lounge
with patio doors onto the deck.
· Door leading off into the Master double bedroom with ensuite
shower and toilet.

· Twin bedroom/upstairs lounge has television with freeview, a
DVD player and games, an Xbox with a selection of games.

Red Kite Lodge sits in an elevated position next to Kingfisher Lodge making them ideal for larger parties staying together or for romantic couples who just want to get away from it all Outstanding views from both lower and upper decks across the surrounding countryside and out over the Solway.
Red Kite Lodge layout

room for two!)
· Glazed door through to the open plan kitchen/ dining area with
doors onto the full width deck. Carpeted open tread staircase leads up

upper deck.

Red Squirrel
Set at the lower end of Barend Holiday Village, Sandyhills and across
from the riding stables, Red Squirrel Lodge is set well back from the
Barend Holiday Village access road and with lots of flat parkland around
it is ideal for those with young families and the elderly.
Red Squirrel Lodge layout:

open plan kitchen is to the rear.
· Door from the lounge into the rear hall with access to house
bathroom with bath and electric shower over, toilet and hand basin.

Thistle Dubh Lodge
Thistle Dubh Lodge is located on the Southern slope of Barend Holiday
Village with views from the top deck out over Sandyhills Bay and the Solway
Firth to the Fells of the Lake District.
Thistle Dubh Lodge layout:
· Entrance hall with door off to large fitted kitchen,
· Door to bathroom with mains shower over bath,
· Door through to lounge/dining area with patio doors at each end
leading out onto full length deck.
· Door from rear of lounge to single bedroom.
· Open tread carpeted staircase from hall to landing and hallway
with door to front twin bedroom with en-suite toilet and wash hand basin.
Door to rear double with door out onto upper deck and door to en-suite
bathroom with corner shower.
Thistle Dubh Lodge facilities & equipment:

Bridgend Cottage
Bridgend Cottage, originally Sandyhill's village hall and adjacent cottage.
Now converted to a superbly equipped and comfortable family home. Set
as it is, Bridgend Cottage is a literal stones throw from the golden sands
of Sandyhills Bay and an average 3 iron from Colvend Golf Course!
A pleasant leafy garden lies to the rear of Bridgend Cottage featuring a stone bridge onto a small island in the middle of the adjoining burn. This is unfenced and accordingly young children will require supervision.

The heating and hot water is provided by and Oil fired Combi
Boiler and there is an electric fire in the lounge for those winter evenings.

Directions
There is easy access to the Solway Coast area of Dumfries and Galloway
in southern Scotland and generally you will enjoy quiet roads throughout
the area.
Travelling to Galloway Country Cottages from South of the Border - All routes converge on the M6 at Carlisle, from there a short drive up the M74 takes you to Gretna on the Scottish border and the A75.
Follow this to the outskirts of Dumfries and take the A710 which leads you easily through Dumfries and out onto the quiet Solway coastal road to the hamlet of Sandyhills, turn right at the foot of the hill and you will find Barend Holiday Village in Dumfries and Galloway some 400 metres on your right.
Travelling to Galloway Country Cottages from Central Scotland - Leave the M74 at Junction 15 Moffat and take the A701 down to Dumfries. At the A75 Dumfries ring road carry on across into Dumfries following signs for the A710 Solway coast road.
Follow this through the village of New Abbey into the hamlet of Sandyhills, turn right at the foot of the hill and you will find Barend Holiday Village in Dumfries and Galloway some 400 metres on your right.
Travelling to Galloway Country Cottages from the West/Northern Ireland on the A75 - Turn right onto the B794 just after the Castle Douglas by-pass and follow this road down to Dalbeattie.
Carry straight ahead onto the A710 and follow this round the Solway coast to the hamlet of Sandyhills at the crossroads at the foot of the hill turn left and the entrance to Barend Holiday Village in Dumfries and Galloway is 400 metres on your right.
