Activities and Attractions
You cannot miss Pucks Glen which is a magnificent forest walk immediately behind the lodges, it’s a ‘must-do’.

Choose from many other interesting Forest Walks in the area, from a brief stroll to a real challenge.
Mountain biking is becoming big in the Argyll Forest Park, varying from classics like the forest road circuit of Loch Eck, to state of the art single track: try Glenkin and Glenbranter . We can give you lots of other personal recommendations.

You are on the western edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, justifiably Scotlands first National Park. Just a few minutes north is Benmore Gardens, a world renowned botanic garden.
Dunoon has the usual range of shops, a cinema, swimming pool, etc.

'Bookpoint' is an outstanding bookshop on Argyll Street, but then we're biased, we own it. Inveraray has a classic castle, Inveraray Jail is well worth a visit, as is the George Hotel!

Cruachan mountain has a power station inside it! A tourist visit with a difference.

Drive over the hills to the Kyles of Bute, then onwards to Portavadie for the small car ferry across Loch Fyne to East Loch Tarbert, head north via Lochgilphead and Inveraray, pause for refreshments at the original Loch Fyne Oysters, shop for presents at The Tree Shop, then south past Loch Eck, the jewel in the crown: a classic introduction to the varied delights of Argyll.

Glasgow is the destination for culture and other delights of a vibrant city, our favourites being the Burrell Collection and Kelvingrove museum. The Glasgow Science Centre is a futuristic and fascinating visit.

If you like a day on the water or check out the programme for excursions on the Waverly, the world’s last sea-going paddle steamer.

Quadmania offers a great way to explore the hills on guided quadbike treks. After all this you will need more refreshments: The Coylet Inn comes well recommended, the Sheila's Dinah at the Cothouse is within walking distance, experience the welcome at the Pier Hotel in Kilmun. Chatters in Dunoon is a first-class dining experience.

Stalking can be arranged locally and the lodge has a gun cabinet for secure, legal, gun storage.

Fishing: sea, river and loch are all available locally, and Dunoon Angling Club can advise.

DIRECTIONS
Benmore Lodge is situated 6 miles (8km) north of Dunoon, on the Lamont Lodges site, midway between the Cothouse Services and the Benmore Botanic Gardens. It is immediately adjacent to the famous Pucks Glen forest walks.

From Glasgow, choose from two routes:
Either:
Drive up Loch Lomond and down Loch Fyne (A82, A83, A815). Drive time 1hr 30 min This is a superb scenic drive past Loch Lomond , the heart of Scotland's first National Park, then through the majestic Arrochar Alps.

Or:
Drive to Gourock (M8, A8, A770) and by frequent ferry across the Clyde, then north to Benmore (A815). Drive time 45 min's, then 20 min's ferry, then 15 min's drive This is a splendid short ferry ride to Dunoon, the marine gateway to the Park.

Ferries:
Two operators provide a service, with boats at every 15-30 minutes for much of the day. Check details at Caledonian MacBrayne and Western Ferries.

Ferry tickets are available onshore at MacBraynes terminals, and onboard Western Ferries, but are much cheaper at Steve’s store in Gourock (just before the Police Station, with a Western Ferries sign), or at the village shops in Sandbank. We can help by posting Western Ferries tickets if this is more convenient.

Finding Lamont Lodges:
Approaching from the north on the A815, look out for the Benmore Botanic Gardens. 1 mile beyond, look out for a sign on the left for 'Lamont Lodges' and turn left here into the site. If you see a sign for Pucks Glen you have gone too far!

Approaching from Dunoon on the A815, look out for the Cothouse Services. 0.7miles beyond, look out for the Pucks Glen car park. 300m beyond the car park, on the right, is the entrance to Lamont Lodges.

Once you enter the site, Benmore Lodge (Lodge 15) is to the right over a bridge then the 1st lodge on the left.
