Directions:
From Edinburgh Airport - take the airport bus to the city centre. Go to Marks and Spencer (large store) and catch any of the following buses to bring you directly to Abercorn Terrace - numbers: 15 & 26 (every ten minutes).
Ask the driver to drop you off at Abercorn Park. It is then only a short walk back to the Abercorn Guest House which is on the opposite (south) side of the street.

By car- on the Edinburgh bypass (A720), drive east following signs for A1 Berwick-Upon-Tweed until you get to "Old Craighall Roundabout" (on the A1 road). Now turn left onto the A1 following signs for Edinburgh. After about 1 mile you come to another roundabout with ASDA (supermarket) on your left. Go straight over and you come up to another roundabout.
Turn right here onto Milton Rd East (signed Joppa and Mussleburgh), turn immediately left and continue to the bottom of Brunstane Road. Turn left here and you will see our guest house sign a short distance along this street on the left hand side.
From anywhere - alternatively go to Portobello High Street going East with the sea on your left. You will leave all the shops and come to Abercorn Park (Daisy Park). Continue past this and we are situated on the right hand side.

The Area:
Portobello, to the east of Edinburgh city centre, has a popular promenade facing onto a wide sandy beach. In bygone years Portobello was a great destination for holiday makers from all over Scotland, but particularly from the Glasgow area.

In the 19th century it became a very fashionable bathing resort for certain classes and the sandy beach was know by such as sir Walter Scott and King George IV. It also had its own industry and was a minor centre of fishing. In the early 19th century Portobello was made a Burgh but was incorporated into the city of Edinburgh towards the end of the century.
For over 100 years between the mid 19th and 20th century, Portobello was also accessed via rail, but sadly, this facility was withdrawn in the mid 1960s.

One of Portobello's claims to fame was its outdoor swimming pool, well known to many in the central belt of Scotland during their Summer vacations, but also where Sean Connery worked as a life guard in his younger days.
Today, Portobello is a great community with its seaside, enjoyable parks, shops and restaurants.
