Other places to stay in and around Edinburgh |
Finding cheap hotels in Edinburgh that are central and offer quality accommodation is not an easy task. The Herald is a 2 star hotel situated in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh close to Haymarket Station and only a 10 minute walk away from Princes Street. Fountainbridge itself offers a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes around Morrison Street and Lothian Road and there are some lovely scenic walks around the canal and Meadows park, both of which are easily accessible from the hotel. So, with the present poor exchange rates, forget Paris in Springtime and enjoy all that Edinburgh has to offer. Herald House Hotel AccommodationRoom Amenities Hotel Amenities If you're looking forward to the summer, we are taking bookings for the month of August when the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe take place - Edinburgh accommodation is notoriously difficult to find throughout the festival season, so be sure to book early. To help you plan your itinerary, we have put together a selection of our favourite Local Attractions. We don't believe you have to spend a fortune to enjoy Edinburgh, utilize our inexpensive accommodation and spend your time and money enjoying all that Edinburgh has to offer. Attractions The Herald House Hotel is known for its good quality, budget, bed and breakfast style accommodation and we don't believe you have to spend a fortune to enjoy all that Edinburgh has to offer. With this in mind, we've put together a selection of places and things we love in and around Edinburgh to help you budget your stay here. We've started with Edinburgh Castle & the Royal Mile, the Scottish Parliament & Arthur's Seat, then uptown shopping at Princess Street and boutique shopping in Stockbridge - giving lots of information about free open Parks and Gardens you can enjoy whilst discovering the commercial side to Edinburgh. Edinburgh has a variety of Art Galleries & Monuments which are central, cheap to enter and great tourist attractions and if the kids are with you, have a look through our information on Edinburgh Zoo and the local sports and leisure centres (with swimming pools for those rainy days). Other places worth a mention in and around Edinburgh are the Grassmarket, the Meadows and the Canal Basin - all easily walkable from Fountainbridge. Murrayfield, which hosts all the Scottish Rugby games and has an ice-skating rink makes for a great afternoon's entertainment and if you have seen the film The Davinci Code, then Roslyn Chapel is definately worth a visit. We hope this helps you plan your visit to Edinburgh, we haven't covered the big events such as Edinburgh Festival & Fringe which run throughout August, the Film Festival in June or the different theatre shows on tour here, but there is a lot of brochure and web information about these organise events available in the Heralds' Hotel foyer. Edinburgh has something for everyone and really is a great holiday destination for even the shortest of breaks. One of the best ways to get around Edinburgh is by bus. Edinburgh has 2 main bus operators, but within the city, Lothian Buses can take you almost everywhere. If you are looking to travel further afield, there are trains from Haymarket Station every 15 minutes to Glasgow Queen Street which deliver you right into the centre of Glasgow in around 45 minutes, or take a train to Inverness with the option of stopping at Pitlochry or Aviemore en route. DIRECTIONS Travel by train/bus: From Haymarket station, facing the clock tower, take the second exit from the right onto Morrison Street. Then go straight on, past a set of traffic lights, and the next right hand turn is Grove Street. There is a carpet shop on the corner. Carry on straight to the end of Grove Street, the hotel is on your right hand side. Travel by car: At the next lights, get into the middle lane and go across Morrison Street into Gardeners Crescent (N.B. do not move on the filter at these lights). Follow the crescent to a roundabout and turn right. Grove Street is next right. From Forth Road Bridge: Go straight on at the next roundabout into Belford Road. Follow this road round past the Hilton Hotel beyond which the road swings right (Douglas Gardens/Palmerston Place). Go straight along Palmerston Place through one set of lights. At the next lights (West Maitland Street) go straight over into Torpichen Street continuing to Dewar Place. From here please follow directions as 'From A8 and M9 (The West)'. From A702 (The South): Follow this road round until you reach the lights at the ' T ' junction ( L'Amore D' Italia restaurant). Turn left onto Fountainbridge Road. Go straight on at the roundabout. Grove Street is now first right. Travel from/to Edinburgh Airport: Email Herald House Hotel enquiries & reservations: bookscotland@madbookings.com
