Our 2 cottages are right in the middle of Scotland conveniently situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh with Stirling and Falkirk within 10 minutes. Situated in 5 acres of private gardens and woodlands our cottages are within walking distance of two great feats of engineering. Put on your walking shoes and explore the Falkirk Wheel and the Antonine Wall straight from your doorstep. Antonine Wall Cottages AccommodationWe have two cottages and also our listed Georgian Mansion House available at certain times of the year only. Our cottages are elegantly and comfortably furnished. We have been awarded 4 stars by The Scottish Tourist Board every year since we opened in 2004(representing an excellent standard of accommodation). The cottages were converted from a listed 1840s stable block. Internally they are light, bright, white and modern while retaining lots of original features such as the 4 foot wide walls and striking double-height ceilings. There are 2 double bedrooms in Hayloft and a double sofa bed for alternative sleeping arrangements. Doocot has a double and a triple bedroom with 3 single beds and there is also a very comfortable sofa-bed for 2 in the conservatory . We can convert the twin bedded room in Doocot to a super king bed if required. All beds have orthopaedic mattresses and good quality bed linens. Doocot cottage is a bit bigger than Hayloft and is ideal for families with children as it overlooks the play area and woods. Doocot also has a lovely conservatory with floor to ceiling windows to take full advantage of the lovely views. Hayloft is perfect for one or two couples or a small family, nature lovers will like it as it overlooks a wood filled with squirrels and birds. There are areas with outdoor seating for both cottages. These seating areas overlook woods, fields and in the distance the Ochil hills and the Trossachs - just the place for enjoying an evening glass of wine! Both cottages feature: We are open all year round. From June to the end of August we normally take full week Saturday to Saturday booking in the cottages, the rest of the year we are happy to take short breaks. Disabled Access Pet Policy Our cottages are just perfect for dogs or those who enjoy a good walk -you can walk along the line of the ancient Antonine Wall for miles and it's right on your doorstep. Or if you prefer water views we have a lovely loch within a 5 minute walk. We have a lovely play area , surrounded by fields with cows and the occasional deer and hare. The play area has a giant trampoline, play-house, swings, slide, climbing ropes and sandpits, and there are also picnic benches for you to sit on while watching the children enjoy themselves. There is also a detached games cabin with a wii and an xbox 360 complete with lots of games. waiting on you for gossiping and catch-ups Activities and Attractions The Falkirk Wheel, the world's only rotating boat lift, was opened only 5 years ago and quite rightly is a top Scottish tourist attraction. The Falkirk Wheel offers the only rotating boat-lift in the world and is a wonderful day out with bikes to hire, an enormous children’s play area, a restaurant and excellent display area as well as the Wheel itself to ride on. The Antonine Wall is the most Northerly frontier built by the Romans almost 2000 years ago and is, according to the guide book Scotland Recommended, our “least exploited treasure”. It is a World Heritage Site. Alternatively you can enjoy the numerous walks from our doorstep along the Antonine Wall, Rough Castle and by the Forth & Clyde Canal, where you can also rent kayaks and bikes. Our local town, Bonnybridge, complete with shops and friendly pubs serving meals, is a one-mile walk from the cottages. There is a loch, St Helens Loch, with free fishing just a 5 minute walk from the cottages where you can catch pike and trout. The City of Edinburgh with its castle, the glorious Princess Street and numerous free museums is easily reachable via a 30-minute train or car journey. The City of Glasgow which is renowned for its excellent shopping and architecture (the Mackintosh Trail is highly recommended) is also 30 minutes by car or frequent train. Stirling with the Wallace Monument and castle (arguably the best in Scotland – I think it is!) is 15 minutes away by car. If you wish a day on the coast you can reach the picturesque beaches of Fife or Rabbie Burns’ country of Ayrshire within an hour. The Trossachs, Peebles, Perth, Loch Lomond, and New Lanark are all within one hour’s drive of the cottages. Even the ski slopes of Aviemore, the delights of the Isle of Arran or the children’s television town of Balamory (actually Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, of course) are also perfectly reachable in a day trip. We can also arrange horse riding at the nearby stables, mountain bikes delivered to your cottages or even you very own skippered luxury boat on Loch Lomond for the day. In each of the cottages you’ll find extensive tourist information including full details of 10 days out easily visited from our cottages and all personally vetted by your hosts. In these information packs we tell you the best places to eat, the best place to park, where to shop for the best bargains and so on. You will never lack for things to do in this part of Scotland - your only problem will be fitting them all in! Email Antonine Wall Cottages enquiries & reservations: bookscotland@madbookings.com
