Other places to stay in Fort Augustus |
Cumberland’s Campsite is a new camping site in the beautiful village of Fort Augustus on the southern shores of Loch Ness.We are a genuine 5 minute walk from the famous Loch. This historical Campsite was used by the Duke of Cumberland’s soldiers after the battle of Culloden in 1746 whilst his men were on hot pursuit of the famous Bonnie Prince Charlie. These facts were discovered by the architect assigned to our project whilst investigating marker stones on the boundary of the new site. Further investigations and a metal detector survey of the area turned up several unused musket balls along with some other small artifacts which proved the theory right. (Hopefully these will be returned to us for display purposes). Based in the central Highlands of Scotland it offers the perfect place to stay for camping whilst exploring the hidden side Glens of Loch Ness and hill walks with outstanding scenery. Cumberlands Campsite Accommodation Cumberland’s Campsite covers approximately 12 acres of flat land,
with a well mowed area for the pitching of tents. The shower block provides 6 showers with plenty of hot water, plus 7 toilets. Cumberland's Campsite lies immediately adjacent to Stravaiger’s Lodge Hostel and is accessed via the same entrance in a quiet location, just a minute or two off the main road through Fort Augustus. The campsite is within easy walking distance of the Caledonian Canal, along which a selection of shops, supermarkets, cafes and pubs can be found. Out & About: The village of Fort Augustus and surrounding area offers a vast
